The NA Newbie Mixes are back, with the goal of being bigger and better than ever! We need help on all levels to make this transition. We are opening up some new positions as well.

This is all volunteer work, but Newbie Mix is the single biggest feeder into competitive TF2. Investing in the scene for the game you love will better ensure there are others to play with for a long time.

Here is a list positions and responsibilities:

  • Head Operations Admin (NOT head admin, expected to be available almost every Friday, leads general operations of mixes)
  • Team Drive Admin: Runs newbie team drive, must also be a drafting admin, broad community trust REQUIRED.
  • Drafting Admin: Drafts mixes, moderates drafting zone, answers newbie questions while waiting for next game.
  • Head Coach: Leads curriculum building and helps other coaches with general tasks. Invite experience appreciated.
  • Weekly or bi-weekly coach for newbies. Formal position, unlike the "who can the admins grab" coach.
  • Social Media Coordinator: Keeps twitter feed active and managed, broad community trust REQUIRED.
  • Other: A position that you feel we need but is not listed. We're happy to incorporate other ideas!

What is the difference between a "Weekly or bi-weekly coach for newbies" and a "who can the admins grab" coach

yup. regular coaches will have access to a group calendar so we can guarantee enough coaches for a successful night in advance through scheduling. admins/ other coaches will still get their buddies for overflow as needed or if someone doesn't show up, but hopefully that won't happen much.

the biggest bottleneck from the previous generation of mixes was the lack of consistency in coaching staff. sometimes we'd have 6 coaches chilling waiting for games to start, and other times we'd have enough newbies for 3 games to be going on w/ no coaches in sight.

Please don't get coaches that are open players or whatever the equivalent is in UGC (Like Silver I think), I tried to show a friend that was new to TF2 competitive newbie mixes, he did one and the coach turned out to be a clueless mid-open player. I know I'm part of the problem since I'm not coaching, but maybe the line was set a bit too low in the past.

this is why we are scheduling coaches now. we never want to have to resort to a mid-open coach.

we've already had a few IM/Invite coaches sign up. with 2x the number of coaches we've had apply in the past 5 hours, we'd have enough to get by. with 3x the number of coaches we've had apply in the past 5 hours, we could comfortably run mixes in their current capacity and have a bit of space to continue growing them.

13-16 will generally be automatically disqualified from administrative positions, and generally declined for everything else. not saying it's impossible, but yeah
