More recently, some gambling web sites started leveraging TF2 items. Today we began the process of blocking TF2 gambling accounts as well. We recommend you don’t trade with these sites.

I only remember sweetstakes.tf, but it was already taken down by its owner (was it geel?) together with saloon.tf

While I agree, skins have no apparent value. They are pixels, in no way do they equal real life money as far as the law is concerned (at least in the US). That being said, this is an overall win, because Valve doesn't have to deal with possible legal issues brought up by a 14 year old kid's parents when he lost his $30 unusual. Not that they have any ground, but it's a waste of time. This also sheds good light on Valve taking this moral stance even though they don't technically have to. They also probably get tons of support tickets saying these sites scammed.

yeah, it's a really serious problem
the law is mainly looking out for young kids who could fall into a cycle of gambling through these sites and could wind-up becoming gamblers when they grow-up
