Do you believe that Competitive TF2 has everything that CS:GO has, in terms of how polished it is? I think that this year TF2 may get a lot more Competitive attention. Valve just has to invest more into the competitive scene, rather than treating it only as a way to make money through micro-transactions over the past several years. It is free to play though, so, I can kind of see why.
Any thoughts?

The CS series has always been considered an high competitive game and almost everyone who play/ed it was because of it. TF2 is widely considered just a casual game. We're lucky if 10% of the whole player base plays at least lobbies.

CSGO is more polished than TF2 for sure, especially when you look at the consideration given to spectating in the game.
In the past CSGO maps have been changed to get bigger skyboxes and improvements made to areas of the maps that players can't even see, just so it looks better as a spectator.
Valve hasn't cared about this kind of thing in TF2 in the past, but maybe we'll see changes soon.

They are both video games that people play for fun. I really don't understand why people have to get into this stuff, if people make more money in csgo tournaments, so be it. I'm sure tf2 would get more attention if Valve supported it more, which it seems like they are doing, but who really cares? It's video games, dude.

it definitely does matter how valve treats it, they alone hold the most potential for making tf2 a more recognized esport quickly. Without valves support I don't think csgo would be anywhere near as big as it is.

Most people who don't play tf2 take it as a joke, and there's also problems with the game (stalemates, etc)
On the flipside, people who don't play csgo take it more seriously because it is more serious, and the game is very fluent.

They're both pretty different games. I enjoy both CS and TF2, and they both have their own features that are enjoyable. I'm guessing your question is not really which is the better game, but whether or not TF2 has the potential to be as big as CS:GO. I personally think TF2 has that potential, but we'll have to wait and see once MM officially comes out.

Remember Valve isn't going to put money in majors if they don't get money out. If majors were to happen it would be in the far future.

i agree with cirlo. csgo was designed with competitive in mind whilst tf2 was clearly made as a casual pub game, since stuff like random crits and unpredictable bullet spread exists.
