Today I'd like to address an issue towards lobby seriousness but first I'd like to go back a year and explain why I'm making this thread right now.
So my friend in real life always thought TF2 was a joke, coming from playing Garrys Mod and CS:GO 2 communities that, from what I've seen, advertise TF2 as just being a silly hat simulator that has no competitive atmosphere what so ever(not true). We've been constantly playing CS:GO and Terraria together for the past 6 month's. At 1 AM I asked my friend jokingly if he wanted to play a tf2center with me, in which he accepted. After the lobby he actually started to take a liking to competitive TF2 and realized the game wasn't really what he thought it was. Ever since then, hes asked me to play lobbies with him every day.
So from here, I gave him the idea that if he could get 6 players from his Garrys Mod community I would mentor his team. He's found success and I can say most everyone on that team has gotten a liking to TF2. So fast forward to today, their doing there first scrim, I'm ringing medic for them since their medic is offline, and they're using my server. The server gets ddosed, and a few chat logs of iron shit talk later, the other team leaves. So from here, I told them that if they wanted I'd make a lobby and reserve a whole team if they wanted and they agreed to do so. So were in the lobby and what do we see on the other team, 2-3 Europeans and a full time huntsman sniper. From here on, I felt as if there opinion of the game switched directions completely. We basically threw the rest of the lobby, ran 2 spies the entire rest of the game.
Now did we have fun? Lots, but its the type of fun you get out of playing a pub. Also let me just note, this isn't the first instance that I've seen this type of hard throwing happen.
You got to ask, is this the image that we want not only tf2center representing, but the competitive community as a whole to represent? Do we want people to think that were just that hat simulator that communities have made us out to be?
2 ways we can fix this:
Simply stop throwing. I'm not asking you to try your ass off in a lobby, but don't run full time pyro, heavy or anything that makes it seem like you are blatantly throwing. You can be black out drunk, make your sensitivity slow as shit, and use fov_desired 70, all while using a controller and I wouldn't mind so long as you're playing medic when you're supposed to be medic, demo when you're supposed to be demo, soldier when you're supposed to be soldier, etc.
Implement something into tf2stadium that allows people that are completely new to competitive to play lobbies together. No more new players getting discouraged when being rolled and they can learn the game slowly. In fact, why don't we take it a step further and add a 7th class (or 10th class if your playing hl) being a coach, so we can basically run newbie mix styled lobbies 24/7 and players with experience can coach teams.
I'm just frustrated, tf2center is a big tool that I've been using to mentor this team, and when shit like this happens I want to tear my hair off.
ps sorry about grammar issues, I was pretty tired when I made this thread

maybe you should worry about yourself and the impact you're having before you try to change other people. Last I heard from you was when you were adding people to talk shit then complaining when they beat you and that they showed "bad manners" by literally quoting you

what? that was the iron team that my friend was playing. Their team literally shit talked my friends team, spammed binds, said that we ddosed our own server, and made us swap like 3-4 servers. I added him to say that shit isn't ok and you can fuck your reputation permanently from doing it. I didn't mean for the conversation to be aggressive, but then he called me a bad mentor and said 90% of iron is better than me.
There team during the scrim litteraly won 2 rounds (because our server got ddosed and everyone left) and then I re execed the config so we can restart the game and then they claimed that there was no point in restarting the game because they would just stomp us like they did when we got ddosed. So we ended up playing, we won a round with no ddos and they claim that they were getting ddosed. So we switched servers, and then they started shit talking our team spamming more binds and calling us cardboard. After both teams exchanged shit talk, they left.
also if my alias's really gives you that judgement of me you should get a reality check

i have a few friends myself that have dabbled in tf2 a bit, it would be pretty cool to play a lobby with them but the state of tf2center is just not a good environment for this type of thing

Although there will be arguments at how times an offclass can be viable at certain times, maybe there should be a way to make lobbies strictly scout, soldier, demo, and medic only for the new players? As for coaching, how would that work? I imagine being spectate, but one can easily cheat like that(unless someone made a plugin to limit a certain spectator to only be able to spectate the color team he had chosen in the lobby process?) by calling out uber % and positions. I coach new people in Dota 2 and that has an implemented coach system so that works, but we're not close to that in TF2 I think until we have MM. Also I don't count the current coach system for pubs lol.

Gather round my friends and I'll tell you of an island upon the sea
Trash island grows with a king at hand who lives by one creed
He stands up strong and yells for all of those to hear him scream;
I am Smobo, ruler of this land, and I shall never show mercy
to not shit post in my presence is purely known as heresy
The garbage builds my strength and an army will be seen
They will chant, "Smobo, king of shitposting garbage on TF.TV!"

Imagine spending 25+ hours a week volunteering for a free video game league, helping newer players get into the game, offering gameplay or league advice to anyone who asks or even expresses interest in joining comp. Mentoring players from pubs to silver level. answering emails, support tickets, steam questions, and replying in IRC, all pretty much constantly. I'm not asking for thanks, I'm asking you to quit perpetuating baseless insults made by a bitter moron that doesn't know me.
i'm bitter because i honestly love helping people especially people that are being pushed around, but people like you take away all the joy in it

I was the leader of the team that was scrimming, yeah, it's pretty much true. The team we were scrimming started shit-talking and spamming binds. They began shit-talking after we had to restart the match due to accelerated servers being ddosed. So yeah, Gargleburry's saying just what happened, and I'll post to back it up. To clear up any confusion, I'm the leader of the team that Gargle's mentoring.

what's really frustrating about this is, even though gargle had a legit complaint, where he was personally offended (by UGC players nonetheless), you decide that instead of contributing to the conversation, you decide to attack him personally. You could be the pope and it still wouldn't make what you're doing less childish.

I'm not trying to say anything particularly mean when i say this, but altruism goes without recognition. When you are recognized, it goes without any reference. This doesn't serve you well at all. I know that you do a good bit of help for a community that struggles to keep itself afloat, but telling us that you mentor and all that comes off as insanely self serving (especially when it's incredibly low level mentoring, like, what do you tell them? "Hey, you have 2 eyes and ears, you should use those.). It is incredibly smart to simply heed the advice of those ratchet retards on your FB and just "Ignore the haters :HellaEmojiCryingFace: " and move the fuck on from trying to validate yourself to people that don't care about you.
Not trying to be a dick, but think about it for a few minutes bud.

IT SAYS BILL POSTED 34 MINUTES AGO BUT PLOXO IS THE LAST POSTER
I think the last time I played a lobby, the medic I played with went engineer when we were up 4/0 and then dragged the game out to 5/3 because he wouldn't play medic again. That was also a lobby where I snagged up 114 health kits while the second most person snagged somewhere in the high 30s. Having reasons to play in lobbies again would be nice.

- theres like maybe 3-7% of the player base that will constantly hella throw any and every chance they get.
- asking them "please don't throw" will literally do nothing, calling them retards will definitely do nothing
- I'm not sure why these people exist. i don't really understand their purpose since they aren't good players blowing off steam, theyre actually just bad and they never put effort in to get better. But they aren't just pubbers either, they enjoy being bad at a competitive video game. As though they are bad on purpose -- maybe a psychology major can explain? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What you should do if you want your team to get better is recognize them and avoid them -- look for pony / "im not retarded im just acting retarded" themed avatars. if your team is bad enough maybe you could do a newbie mix or maybe we the community could start a team newbie mix w/ coaches for newbie sub open teams.

maybe you should worry about yourself and the impact you're having before you try to change other people. Last I heard from you was when you were adding people to talk shit then complaining when they beat you and that they showed "bad manners" by literally quoting you

and ugc wonders why they get so many complaints

miwoI'm not sure why these people exist. i don't really understand their purpose since they aren't good players blowing off steam, theyre actually just bad and they never put effort in to get better. But they aren't just pubbers either, they enjoy being bad at a competitive video game. As though they are bad on purpose -- maybe a psychology major can explain? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'd assume it's much more relaxing to just be a retard than to actually put in the effort to get better
