futureDunderBroI really liked catcher in the rye.

And you can't go wrong with Tolkien

you make me think of stuff I was reading in school
the giver was a real weird one.

The Giver was the best book I was required to read in elementary school. My summer reading lists didn't get any better until high school.

I recommend the entire Ender's Game series.

Chronological order:

Main book:

  • Ender's Game

Shadow Series: A modern geopolitical series

  • Ender's Shadow (same time frame as the original)
  • Shadow of the Hegemon
  • Shadow Puppets
  • Shadow of the Giant

Prequel:

  • Ender in Exile

Original trilogy: Best Sci-Fi I've ever read

  • Speaker for the Dead
  • Xenocide
  • Children of the Mind

I also recommend the entire Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Series:

  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  • The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
  • Life, the Universe and Everything
  • So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish
  • Mostly Harmless

If you're looking for some interesting educational reads, the books Freakonomics and Superfreakonomics are amazing. Outliers is good too.

I also always enjoy reading through all of Dan Brown's books as well.

  • Digital Fortress (my personal favorite thriller novel)
  • Deception Point
  • Angels & Demons
  • The Da Vinci Code
  • The Lost Symbol
  • Inferno

does anyone have any books they could recommend similar to "the bell jar" (sylvia plath), "a heartbreaking work of staggering genius" (dave eggers), etc.? kind of "emotional non-fiction" with really strong writing (not sure what genre these fall in) type of books?

fosterIf you like music, I've been reading a bit of Chuck Klosterman. It's pretty damn engaging.

you mean shitty pop culture writing.

A Song of Ice and Fire, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit. All good fantasy novels that you should read if you haven't already. c:

As I said in the other topics, A wheel of Time series. Should only take year to read all 14 books.
