Why aren't there more invite-caliber teams/players ready to step up to the plate? (Or maybe there ARE lots of players/teams ready for invite competition but not able to because of the promotion rules)

I mean, I've seen some players and teams (under different names) hanging throughout open/IM for seasons if not YEARS. Surely invite should be a bit more robust/healthy given the number of players who are serious and dedicated to improving.

its more fun to play as a group of friends than it is to win sometimes. not everyone can get good at this game.

Yeah I've heard a lot of people say that if they're not going to make LAN, it's not worth playing in Invite.

haha u mean its not fun to pay 60 bucks get beat on by the same people whove been going to lan for 10 seasons now?

im not saying its unfair nor that they dont deserve to go, but the space between being considered an invite-caliber player or team and being considered a lan-competitor is fucking huge and the grind to shrink that gap down never gets any easier

IDK, I was in r5, and after the first two weeks I realised that there was little chance that we were going to make LAN. One of the main reasons being that, as a team, we didn't really put effort in to improve (e.g. go over STVs, run through maps, etc). We discussed some situations that had happened in previous game, and how to approach it if it were to arise in another game, but that was practically the extent of it.

I still had a lot of fun playing with people that, while they weren't putting the BEST effort in to improve, they were still trying to improve their own game, and were also playing to have fun. And it was fun despite playing in the bottom half of Invite. You take it for granted just chucking away your invite spot like that, because our team (Immunity) has an even bigger gap between our competition in Australia compared to Invite, especially when your pool of 'good players' is much bigger than ours.

Makes me sad, and wish I could play in invite on normal ping and at 'normal' times T_T

EDIT: granted it sucks that you have to pay money to actually compete, at least you can 'eventually' look forward to getting some money back. When we win, all we get is a forum icon, a pair of shoes, or something.

just think

that's like 30 slices of pizza you could have gotten

rip those 30 slices of theoretical pizza (technically ranges from 10-60 depending what part of the US you live in and pizza type)
