Whenever I watch casts of HRG matches lately, it comes off to me that there's kind of excessive amounts of dickriding. I get that people are going to be biased in the first place, but it's just obnoxious to me how much of the time is spent talking about how hrg is "so good".
be thankful tyrone "tyrone" wang isn't playing or you would be hearing 30+ minutes of unfiltered slurping noises
Yah srsly, please stop calling a team that is really good, really good, ITS Ssooooo STUPIDDDD TO DESCRIBE THINGS THE WAY THEY ARE!!!
I think the 5-2 games like this would be a lot more exciting to watch if the winning team wasn't praised so much. Or the losing team wasn't called out so much. When there is action going on, it becomes far more exciting (and I think would retain viewer attention longer) if you simply cast what is actually happening at the moment.
Obviously there seemed to be a "skill" discrepancy among the two teams tonight, but I'd rather hear what the losing team could do to improve, rather than just hear that they are losing.

I don't think this needed to be made into a thread.
well, i think tonight was a perfect example of why they are so good. it isnt 'dickriding' they are just stating the honest truth. until hrg loses a map people(casters) cant NOT say they are "so good"
I'm not saying hrg isn't a good team (they are), I'm just saying that they just get praised so much that it feels excessive. I'd rather be hearing about the misstep that the other team made than people talking about how good player x is all the time
I just made a thread to see if anybody felt the same way but I guess not

you mean like when boomer was backcapping last and b4nny stopped him?
boomer didn't really make a mistake, b4nny is just fucking good

I tend to agree.
We all know that HRG are a very good team - we don't need to be reminded of that in a cast every two minutes. However, in that game, it wasn't always "HRG playing so good!!!", it was quite often the missteps of Tri Hards, and imo that wasn't really highlighted in the cast enough.
For example: tagg goes behind tri hards on one of the mids, is alone with kbk for like 10+ seconds, and then everyone applauds him for killing the medic when NO ONE ON TRI HARDS DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT >:|. Conductor definitely isn't trying to take anything away from the team at all, if you actually read his posts.
If you look at a lot of casts for other games (even in previous TF2 casts!), you often have another caster asking something along the lines of: 'If you were team x, what would you do to bring it back?' or 'what do you think x need to do in this situation?'. Instead, it's just 'look how good HRG are!'
and @ the b4nny vs boomer duel on last: yes b4nny did hit a nice pipe, but boomer still only did like 10 damage which was unfortunate, not allowing tri hards to secure the cap there since they pretty much went all in on that.

yeah but we don't need to constantly hear how b4nny is the best player in the game the same way that james chen doesn't have to fucking give a 20 minute lecture on game mechanics when someone gets hit by the gootecks shimmy.
HRG gets dickrode pretty fucking hard because literally every time a player gets a flank off/tagg bomb the casters automatically go to TAGG IS THE BEST ROAMER/SHRUGGER IS THE BEST SCOUT/CYZER BROWN POWER. Nobody seems to ever mention when casting that the opposing team is pushing 6 players through choke with bad health and no one is watching three players walk into their ass from flank.

Sure, but did he miss shots because b4nnys movement is really good? fact of the matter is b4nny outplayed boomer and won a fight that should have gone the other way to save the round. Because he is good.

I'll just throw my two cents out there: trihards did not play particularly well tonight. There weren't a lot of big plays coming out of them. Therefore there was not much to talk about on their front. I don't know if you remember the first three rounds of the game being over in less than 10 minutes but I do. It sounds like some people here are looking for an excuse to hop on the forums and say they're tired of hearing of how good HRG is. I am sorry it was not a better match for the viewers, really. I can assure you if the trihards had a better night you would've been hearing a lot more about them on the cast.
HOWEVER, as a newbie in the caster world, I will take any criticism to heart. I will be sure to be careful in choosing my words when speaking about HRG to make it seem professional and unbiased in the future.

I agree with Ruwin. Look at the 4th round for example. The casters were super hopeful/hyped at a trihard come back and started talking about them the same as they had been talking about HRG the first 3 rounds where they rolled each round. When a round goes that quick what is there really to say besides so and so just killed so and so and won the round.
Player A beats player B.
Player A is better, so you naturally focus on what he did right. (e.g. "HRG is so good, look at how they kited the uber, got all six out.")
Player B is worse, so you naturally focus on what he did wrong. (e.g. "tri hards popped uber too early fearing a sticky trap from b4nny, but they have advantage and could have taken their time, thereby closing the distance first.")
They're two sides to the same coin. HRG was undefeated last season and is undefeated this season, so it's obvious HRG is so good, but consequently it's hard to escape the "HRG is so good" mentality that leads to talking about side A more.
That said, as a n00b who watches the streams and plays newbie mixes occasionally, I think from a casting perspective side B offers better analysis and information. After all we learn from our mistakes, not our successes.

to be fair to the casters, ruwin did say at one point tonight (i think 4-1 HRG with tri hards pushing hrg's second) that the tri hards should not be pushing on a post-uber fight. and then they were wiped.
i, too, appreciate more of the tactical analysis rather than the play-by-play casts, but granary is a very linear map and there's frankly not much to discuss in the way of flank plays. keep your med up and wipe the other team at mid? get frags on the last push and win the round. both medics up? whomever has a demo can take yard/the second point. there was what, a single off-classing stalemate tonight? not all that much time for the casters to discuss what teams are or should be doing imo.
unless you're looking for, "tri hard scouts are missing shots tonight"-type comments. which, i would imagine, in a 3-0 (5-2) quasi-roll, it'd be equally as boring to hear.

the reasoning in some of these posts is appalling. I will grant you that tri hards made some mistakes, but do the tri hards usually make the same mistakes against lesser teams? Surely it is an indication of how "good" HRG is that they can force the other team to make mistakes?? If anything the casters were on the ball, both of them having been apart of competitive TF2 for so long that they have developed the ability to notice when play truly is exceptional.

"HRG forced tri hards to push into last post uber when it was a bad idea."
Is that what you're telling me?
HRG typically force the other team to make mistakes by slowing the game down and the other team getting really antsy about it then the other team just holds w and dies to the b4nny/lansky wall. They didn't slow the game down in that situation, tri hards just got overeager with the uber and ended up getting wiped because of it.

I can't go into the minds of the players but neither can you. Alls I can conjecture is that perhaps the tri hards made some missteps because they felt "pressured" to play aggressively because of how tight HRG plays. Nothing occurs in a vacuum.

Personally as an unbiased opinion on the matter I believe there should be actually more HRG dickriding, especially for that handsome and classy guy, cyzer. He's a dreamboat and could definitely use more praise, he's clearly the best.
It seems like it's not easy for the casters to focus on what people are doing wrong/badly without offending any players. Obviously, no one wants the person(s) being criticized to feel like the casters are calling them out, so it's easier to focus on "oh shit x player is going huge" than "yeah team y just got completely wrecked and they really shouldn't have".
i don't really see this as a big deal, giving a team credit where credit is due for playing so well together, maybe they state it more than usual in casts but its whatever....honestly i don't think this is anywhere near as awful when people kept referring to mixup as a "super team" that was just god awful and completely uncalled for, there is always going to be one dominate team every season. of course they're gonna get the praise they deserve until another team comes along and beats them, thats just the way it is
if you ever play another game competitively or get into it from a spec pov, you will see they're not that far off from talking about the best of the best constantly just like TF2 casters, i didn't see the stream tonight but honestly if it gets to the point where it annoys you just don't listen to the cast and watch in STV. casts aren't for everyone thats all
