I highly recommend HexChat. You can customize a lot and there are some thorough youtube.com videos on how to set it up.

If GameSurge could be configured properly this wouldn't happen... there's a way to prevent the server from thinking ATF2 is flooding with connections.

The client is victim of its popularity, I will try to fix that issue but I cannot guarantee anything regarding the delay. At least it should work an hour after the G-Line happened.
