Whenever I join the UGC mge server it always seems to do something to my PC where for the rest of the time my game is open it seems to stutter and bottleneck but my PC components are fine when looking at taskmanager????

Any help would be appreciated, iv heard it could be some kinds of mod that is downloaded from the server but idk.

Using "cl_disablehtmlmotd 1" seems to help, but the server still is terrible with it.
I would recommend restarting your game after playing on the server even with it disabled.

It’s a really bad server. I don’t know why it has the traffic it does. Idk if it’s a lack of moderation, seems pretty absent. UGC literally killed gflclan’s mge server, I was a admin for two years, I suspect aside from a focus on cheating, it was the heavy handed moderation on racial slurs / toxic behavior, etc. In the end I feel like people wanna shit talk and say what they want in mge, it’s always been like that, platforms with less accountability will always be preferred among this sorta playerbase. Personally since it’s a practice mod and it being completely outside of pugs, scrims and official matches under RGL/ETF2L, it should had pushed self priority mutes / and disabling chat box outside of commands for joining / leaving maps. I’m all for a healthy environment in official matches, but our community failed to push the idea of limiting exposure to majorly toxic interactions, you could argue newer players don’t have access to those commands, and that’s fair, but instead of providing that information we killed our player base with heavy handed bans.

It’s now a deathrun server, and I don’t expect that to last long.

Too many people are banned from from spaceship for it to be an alive MGE server. The spaceship servers in NA feel great to play on, but they will never be the most popular server because so many ppl are banned

who is banned that shouldnt be? most ppl who get banned nowadays are either egregiously toxic or cheating

UGC servers are reporting a fake ping to the server browser. As a result they're always on the top of the server browser.

jp_UGC servers are reporting a fake ping to the server browser. As a result they're always on the top of the server browser.

This is part of the problem but not the whole issue, the UGC servers just kinda suck in general. I ping well to some of their hightower servers (even though they all list similar ping on the server browser including the EU server, very cool) but they all feel like dogshit and the difference is immediately obvious when you switch to casual hightower even with similar playercount. UGC MGE server is similar, idk what's up with it (never restarts???) but it always feels giga ass. Don't think it's a framerate thing either, just spinning in spawn room feels worse on the UGC servers lol.

Yea I’ve seen a lot of pub servers do this, even EU servers. They will make it look like 20-30 ping and after connecting it’s like 60 tops. It’s been this way for a year.

the ping thing came up a while ago, apparently there is a charitable explanation. I do really find it annoying tho

https://www.teamfortress.tv/post/1063510/ugc-tf-servers-lying-about-ping

ArieThere's a DDoS mitigation strategy (anycast network with globally cached A2S_PLAYER/A2S_INFO responses) that has these unrealistically low pings as a side effect. Looking at a random UGC IP from the US that pinged really low for me, that seems to be the reason.

Big ticket server providers market DDoS protection in their larger packages, but they serve a double purpose in the fact that some servers will buy it just for the ping-masking to get players. Happens all the time in other source games as well.

Figured that as much. EU servers actually show up with that as well, I don’t get how that system works, but usually when I’m refreshing my server browser I do lowest ping on the filter, usually I would go with that to be sure nothing under 70 is outside of NA for me, now I check to make sure it’s EU, but before it was getting to be annoyed to join a sever with what was actually 100+ ping.

depends on the level of toxicity honestly, a little banter can be funny but mic spamming the whole time is annoying and they won't get kicked or anything because ugc has no moderation.

Why would you play with voice enabled / chat box? It’s been this way for years, if you just wanna play, disable that shit. How many nice interactions have you had that keeps you away from cutting off coms? Two commands and you can just practice without the banter.

yeah, you can always do that, fair point. but the mic spammer isn't gone and all players who join without voice disabled will be immediately getting their eardrums blown out.

Late reply but I just came across this thread randomly from Google.

This is the reason I used to run Steam with its web helper service disabled, in order to prevent any loading of HTML from inside TF2. For whatever reason, it makes the game stutter. It may report 240 fps but it feels more like 60. Really strange. The 64 bit update hasn't done anything to fix this problem, for the record

Ever since the Steam Deck UI unification updates to the Steam client, it is no longer possible to use the built-in function to disable chromium stuff in Steam, since most of its UI sadly relies on it now.

The only solution I'm aware of is to suspend the main steamwebhelper.exe process and then kill all of its child processes after launching TF2, easiest to do using Process Explorer. You can resume the process after you're done playing to restore Steam to its normal functionality. It is really dumb but literally nothing else helps. No less because nobody seems to realize this is even a problem in the first place in order to cook up solutions... or maybe smarter people than I just avoid servers that implement HTML in their Message of the Day altogether

cl_disablehtmlmotd in tf2 is enough to prevent that lol, you don't have to disable chromium in steam.

Regardless though, it doesn't solve the problem. The ugc mge server is a laggy mess with its MOTD or without it, there's not too much difference.
