Just noticed that I now have 2 map folders for TF2 after updating to steampipe. Both are over 2 gigs and I'm trying to conserve space on my little SSD. Which one should I delete?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\maps

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\download\maps

Thanks

I believe tf\maps will show up in the create local server box, while tf\download\ will only be playable via console.

Either way, tf\maps is the way to go.

#2 the idea behind steampipe was to leave the default folders alone.

For the OP, there are technically three places for maps

#1 tf\maps: this is for default maps, leave this folder alone

#2 tf\download\maps: this if for maps that you downloaded during play, e.g. the surf server you are on switches maps and you need to download the new map.

#3 tf\custom\FOLDER\maps: this is for maps that you personally have downloaded from places like gamebanana, e.g. the maps for this season of open.

The only caveat is that maps in the tf\download\maps folder will not show up when you try to create a server through the gui.

I thought the idea behind steampipe was to make things simpler? 3 map folders is kinda annoying.

Will the custom folder maps show up when I try to create a local server?

Thanks for your help and input

It does make it simpler; the only place you should be using for external content is the custom directory. It also makes the tf directory more organized since users shouldn't be overwriting content like before.

All maps will show up in console regardless of their location, but maps in tf\maps and tf\custom\FOLDER\maps will appear in the server creation gui as well. No idea why downloaded maps do not, probably a bug.
