Debating whether or not to get a ModMic

I currently have a Blue Snowball, and while it's a nice mic, I've heard it picks up my keyboard, mouse, and other people in my house a lot, which is obviously not optimal.

I'm considering getting a ModMic the next time they come in stock, since it supposedly has good sound quality, I can put it on my headphones, so I won't need to worry about placement, and it shouldn't pick up as much excess noise.

Also, since it's sound card reliant, I was also planning to pick up an Asus Xonar DG, but I'd probably pick that up either way, for the Dolby Headphone, unless anybody has any other ideas on sound cards, I'd like to hear them.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Mana is using it right now to stream the LAN:

twitch.tv/nulflo

it picks up everything within like 2 seats. So if you're sitting 5 feet in any direction the mic will pick it up easily

Yeah, the quality is great, but it picks up anything around my desk. It can even pick up audio from my headphones.

I've heard good things about the Snowball.

I just recently ordered the modmic and I love it, I hate having to bend over or move towards a stationary mic to talk into it, and the modmic's design is pretty brilliant.

This has been my personal experience. It will pick up a mechanical keyboard and surrounding sound but this only really matters depending on your surrounding environment. I personally don't think MX Blue switches sound that bad with a modmic.

For future reference, if you are using a desktop mic like the Snowball you should get something unidirectional.

I don't know if you've made your decision yet, but here's what I've found.

The modmic has not only met, but far exceeded my expectations in terms of quality, performance, and convenience.

Some people seem to be saying that it picks up a lot of sound - I've not had this issue. I use open back headphones, two mx red keyboards (on which I bottom the fuck out of the keys), and even frequently eat apples while playing. None of the noise from these things goes through my mic - maybe I just have the settings right...

The modmic 3.0 is supposed to be a sidegrade to the current 2.0, the 3.0 offering more noise cancellation... so if you are super concerned about cancellation of background noise, keep up with the blog on their website for the 3.0's drop date. Rumor has it that they are going to sell the few 3.0s they have, cancel all production of 3.0s, and start work on the 4.0. Given that they were talking about releasing the 3.0 for like 8 months now, there is no telling how long you'd have to wait for a 3.0 or 4.0.

I hope this helped.

I was tearing my hair out waiting for the 3.0. They announced "next month" every month for about 4 until I just decided to buy a headset. Still interested in the modmic but now that I actually have a decent mic I can wait until they release 8.0 and its flawless.
