I recently played a center that had those Quake "domination" sounds which would also throw up text on the screen for example: "So and so is dominating." How would I get rid of this with lawena or is there anything I can change in the ol' tf folder to make it all go away for that demo?

That's not possible, it's because of demos recording SourceMod plugins messages, there's no way to delete them, maybe if you somehow could edit the demo file itself

After exporting as AVI, the video is nice and smooth and the beginning, but then it gets real choppy. Any solutions?

Yeah, it'll be like that until you chuck it in Sony Vegas/Other video editing software and render it through that.
On another note, does anyone know what interp/other net settings I should have whilst recording so it looks like my shots are actually on my enemies? I've uploaded a few videos now and all the sniper shots look like BS because of lag compensation.

Sorry for the late response, but have you tried the default "suggested" interp values or even 0? Are you watching STVs or POVs? If this is no longer an issue, then no need to answer.
To make this bump more worthwhile, if there's something about my original posts that should be updated, let me know. I can't add more to the posts themselves (unless character limit has been increased since), but I can always try to summarize in some areas in order to have room.

I made a test video using everything that wasn't from the optional: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-U91_od_z4&feature=youtu.be
It probably doesn't look at good because I had to downscale it from 1080p, but I'm still pretty satisfied with the results.
For those that need to get Vegas but don't have the funds, here's an updated video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcC7RjQ-QZw

I recently made a frag vid for a friend using pretty much the original guide in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mvTkrzjc7s). I recorded the clips using lawena at 1080 & 120fps and used sony vegas to throw together etc.
I decided I should start using srcdemo2, assuming that it would give me smoother, better looking clips. However, I've done quite a few different setting tests with srcdemo2 and in general the quality does not look as good as just using lawena at 1080/120fps.
The current "best" srcdemo2 settings I've managed to get were PNG files, final video fps of 120fps, blendrate 12fps, gaussian blending 0.1.
I was wondering what srcdemo2 settings some of you guys use? links to any vids using your settings would be appreciated !
sidenote: on SOME of my srcdemo2 tests I had the audio desync issue, is there anything that specifically triggers this?

Mighty, your video looks perfectly fine. What about it to you looks off?
Muppet, the difference between Lawena and Srcdemo2, at least from my understanding, is that Srcdemo2 is easier on your HD. It'll take all your tgas and, while keeping the same quality, compress them into fewer PNGs. While I don't use, and never plan on using Srcdemo2, I feel like you might be trying to find a visual difference too much. Maybe you're right, maybe you're not, but really, the visual difference to me is basically not there.

the link to the lewena tool is broken, mind fixing it?
I'm wanting to recreate this thread with more up-to-date information when I can (soon???), but I've been sort of out of the loop lately and I'd like to know what people think should be added to the original posts; things possibly objectively beneficial. Software, general resources, etc. Any help, really! Thank you.

Only thing i saw is you should change the 30fps to 60fps

Just wondering why this is happening...
Settings for Lawena:
Resolution: 1920
FPS: 120
DxLevel: 98
Every Box Ticked Except for Motion Blur and 3D Player Model
Recorded my videos using the VDM setting, not sure if that's what the problem is.
Settings for Virtual Dub:
Change Frame Rate to FPS: 120 (Same thing happens when I sync audio with video too)
Frame Rate Conversion: Process All Frames
This is after it's processed from Virtual Dub

Not sure what above post would be about, but considering I'm using the same settings, it might be the same.
The preview in vdub looks fine at 120 frames, zero lag of any kind. After rendering, both in and outside of Vegas, it gets really choppy at times you'd expect a real-time match to drop a bit in frames as well (point blank explosions). Happens regardless of having audio attached?
/seems to be 1080p, works fine with 720p. Thought recording wasn't that resource intensive? Wrong settings?

You open it, tie your TF2 folder to Lawena and create a folder using Lawena that will be used to store your TGA files, then you choose your settings and launch TF2 when you're done.
i just downloaded lawena and im having a problem brought up earlier in the thread
Lemonhi. can someone help me with this? only place where it would make sense.
i want to render a clip so i open it up in lawena. i skip to the tick that i want and it closes my game. i've tried speeding it up to 600% and it crashes at like the 1300 tick mark.
but i open it in the regular game (non-lawena) and it runs fine.
do you guys have any ideas?
the exact tick varies from demo to demo, but i am yet to get past the 2000 mark in any demo ive watched with lawena.
toothIt's probably something in the graphics config lawena uses that's causing it to crash. Double check that mat_queue_mode is set to 0 and see if it still crashes.
i double checked this and mat_queue_mode was set to 0. i even set it to mat_queue_mode -1 just to see if it'd help, but with no luck. any suggestions?
edit: also for some reason, the very first time i used lawena everything worked fine. after that first time i cant get it to work
here is the log: http://pastebin.com/rwhUvsJS

ok so i think i resolved it myself
i changed mat_queue_mode in recording.cfg from 0 to 1, as recommended in this thread : https://github.com/iabarca/lawena-recording-tool/issues/52
however, i also had to change huds. even with mat_queue_mode 1, ahud was giving me problems while recording for some unknown reason. whenever i dealt damage it crashed, so i assume its an issue with a font or something?? anyway im still gonna use ahud as my regular hud but m0rehud black will be my hud for recording

I have the same problems as a lot of other people in this thread. After lawena and virtualdub, my video in sony vegas is very choppy and of poor quality. This is really odd as I've used this method in the past, with my best looking video looking like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mT0g4gcDZgU. I follow the guide except my lawena settings look like this: http://i.imgur.com/Jh8OazH.png. I have also tried recording with a higher fps, and with 1280x720. Higher fps just made the video way choppier, and 720p made it more smooth, but way worse quality wise. I'd be surprised if it was my hard ware not being good enough, since the video I linked above was recorded, rendered and encoded on the same computer, just a year earlier.
If someone knows how to fix this or knows a different way of recording and editing a video, then I'd very much appreciate your help.

What is the length/file size of the raw video file you're loading into vegas? Try encoding with a lossless codec out of VDub if you aren't doing so already. Also make sure you have "Preview>Auto" selected in the Sony Vegas preview window, anything higher will most likely cause the preview to be too choppy.

You can add all the commands from the fps config as custom commands in lawena, just make sure you don't overwrite any of the recording binds.
Otherwise you can always just use the recording commands through the console manually.

I made a video on how to make videos in TF2, and it basically follows this guide to a tee, so I figure I'll share this video here:

Thanks, good video

How come you record with 480fps in Lawena instead of like 30 or 60? Wouldn't 480 be incredibly unstable?
sorry, im new to this but when I start up TF2 using lawrena, all of my custom binds, crosshairs, etc are removed. how do I fix this?

it's practicly the purpose of lawena, it's doing what it should do
binds are replaced with movie-recording-related binds and crosshair is set to the one you set in menu

that's just the very nature of lawena, it moves your custom folder to lwrtcustom and replaces it with it's own custom folder (containing movie configs and such)
