Figured I'd make a thread for the new maps they added for the update

Imo the maps they added were really good. I really like Highpass; it reminds me of Viaduct, and I think it could be very good for 6s. Vanguard is pretty nice. Landfall feels a bit stalemate-like, and Snowycoast is a really good Payload map.

What are your thoughts on it?

I don't like the visual aspects of vanguard, but it seems kinda interesting. All of the Tough Break maps have lots of nooks and crannies though.

i hated vanguard in HL and it never got any better

the mid is an absolute clusterfuck and last is an impenetrable death fortress

Vanguard last pushes on pubs are really stale mate like. In competitive, dont know if this will make it less so, but it needs to be nerfed for sure to make last pushes viable.

To be serious though - haven't yet played the other two but the snowy payload map seemed pretty bad and cp_vanguard has always been pretty lacklustre imo; I've always WANTED to like it because it has some neat ideas in places but I think it needs a lot more work to actually be a map worthy of being official or even played competitively

Only problem with high pass is the sniper sight lines. There is no cover on the point. Viaduct, coal plant, even lakeside have cover on the point for certain sniper locations.

Landfall is just a terrible map in my opinion, it is a very short map and is very choke point-y along with this it just straight up looks bad

I agree that the timing for adding vanguard was not ideal. I was in the middle of fixing the map after the last season of UGC when valve came up to me. They wanted to feature the map and I was not in a position to turn them down (a brother's gotta eat you know). A couple changes have already been implemented since the last UGC season. but it's not enough. I had other changes ready to go but I was not comfortable sending new untested changes to valve. Everything happened quite fast. The good thing is I have the opportunity to update the map at any point in time which I intend to do.

A mixed reception was always expected but yeah, I'm hopeful that with an influx of feedback things can get sorted by the end of the campaign.

if you think it's no use, that's cool too. I'll just work harder on the next map. I'm just trying to figure out if the map is of any interest or not.

it looks like a map that tried really hard to tone down the campy laziness of a CTF map, but no matter how you look at it it's still a CTF map and that means it still promotes players to sit in the same spot and do little to nothing for thirty to sixty minutes at a time

the game mode's just kind of flawed at the core, everything else has some form of push/pull that requires movement, CTF has nothing
