What happened to Badlands? I would say it was the community's favourite map back then.

After 9 Years: A Few Questions!

After a lengthy 9-year hiatus, I'm considering dipping my toes back into competitive TF2 and have a few questions. It's been a while, and I'm curious about what's changed and what has stayed the same. I suspect most of you won't know who I am, but I started playing in 2009 (season 5) and stopped in 2015 (season 21), spending a good chunk of that time playing in Division 1 and I also attended quite a few LAN events in the UK.
Oldies: Is anyone from the old guard still around? I used to play with a bunch of incredible folks and am wondering if any familiar faces are still kicking around.
New Maps: Back in the day, I played Badlands, Granary, Gullywash, Metalworks, Process, Snakewater, and Sunshine. Have any new maps emerged that I should be aware of?
Pickup Games: I always enjoyed the old pickup2 IRC system for organizing games. Is there an equivalent where I can jump into a decent pickup game without much fuss? Lobbies just aren't the same.
Meta: Have there been any significant shifts I need to know about to avoid being completely out of the loop? When I played, the only unlocks that were really used were for the medic.
