#93 Saloon.tf V2.0 in News

Could the matches be posted earlier? The site showed a lot of potential last season, it would be a shame if it didn't continue to grow.

#11 Valve launches competitive beta public group in News

This is an interesting way to gauge how interested the general community is with matchmaking. I hope to see the group have a ton of members in 24 hours time.

#56 Worst Christmas Present in Off Topic

I got the same Buffalo Sabres T-Shirt 3 years in a row from my dad. I had to politely ask him this year to not buy me one. He ended up getting me a super comfy sweater this year so it worked out.

#31 What should I buy from the winter sale? in Other Games
BonafideThis is getting insane reviews and it's at 90% sale, probably worth checking out http://store.steampowered.com/app/225080

I think it's because TotalBiscuit declared this his game of the year 2013. I thought it was a beautiful looking game that had a generic story which is filled to the brim with nonsensical moments and ultra convenient plot devices.

Also, I thought the Beginners Guide was a pretentious pile of garbage. The Stanley Parable is a much better pickup if you want a game that isn't actually a game.

Undertale, Lisa, Cave Story+, Bastion, and many others already suggested in this thread have fun gameplay and imaginative stories.

#23 Steam Holiday Sale 2015 in Off Topic

I'm bored so here's a list of games that I've enjoyed over the years.

Undertale - $7.99: Quirky RPG that has decent gameplay but a neat story with funny, fleshed-out writing and characters. The music is awesome too.

Lisa - $2.49: This is my favorite game that I played this year. It's an RPG that is very upsetting at times, but (much like Undertale) has a cast of main characters that are well thought out and imagined. I found the way the story played out to be profound and about as compelling as any game I've ever played. The music in this game is also form-fitting.

Postal 2 - $0.99: This is one of the dumbest games ever made. It's so bad it's good in every way.

Legend of Grimrock - $2.99: The screenshots look boring but it's one of the most unique games I've played. You basically walk around in a dungeon and control 4 characters simultaneously while moving, fighting enemies, solving puzzles, and comboing spells. The game isn't the hardest in the world but it has a surprising amount of depth. I haven't played the sequel yet so I can't recommend it.

Rayman: Legends - $14.99: This is the happiest platformer I've played. The controls are super precise. The artstyle and music are bright and colorful. It's just an all around good time.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition - $1.49: This game is filled with shitty memes from 2012-2013 and game-references that are simply awful. The gameplay however, is top-notch. It's a metroidvania beat 'em up platformer that has a useful upgrade system which enhances the mechanical depth of the game. I also liked the artstyle and music.

Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed - $4.99: It's pretty much Mario Kart but 10x faster, takes a lot more skill, and has no stupid pickups that ruin the fun for people actually good at the game. This is my favorite racing game I've played. The story and time attack modes are simply fantastic.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - $7.49: Fun turn based strategy game that also has base building and rouge-like elements. It's pretty hard but if you're a dumpster like me you can just save every turn and beat the game that way.

Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition - $1.74: It's old as hell but (after the first hour or so) it still holds up to this day. Very fun FPS RPG with hilariously bad voice acting.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - $4.99: A slightly dumbed down version of the original with way better graphics and doesn't have a super stale beginning.

Mount Your Friends - $2.49: Whether or not you think dicks spinning around is funny for more than 5 minutes, this game has some awesome gameplay that has a surprising amount of mechanical depth. Highly recommend only if you have friends to play it with.

Cheap must-buy games if you don't own any of them yet:
Witcher 2 - $2.99
Portal - $1.99
Portal 2 - $3.99
Cave Story+ - $4.94
Mirror's Edge - $4.99
Super Meat Boy - $1.99

Also the current Humble Bundle is pretty good: https://www.humblebundle.com/

#389 The Tough Break Update in TF2 General Discussion
FUNKeThe video isn't a discussion on the implications on the core mechanics of the game, it's a vent about a shitty weapon for pub play.

I don't think it's a shitty weapon for pub play when the weapon is inherently bad but forces bad players to develop basic game sense and awareness to easily counter the weapon.

#181 TF2 update for 12/2/15 in TF2 General Discussion

Sorry for the mini-necro, but after reading through this thread and learning Valve is most likely forcing dx9 in MM I decided to throw vMcJohn a message on reddit about further optimization. Good news:

#76 Why Are These Unlocks Banned? in TF2 General Discussion

I just tested the Flying Guillotine and it literally makes no sound when you throw it, the projectile while in the air also makes no noise. I noticed that the projectiles of the Sandman and the Wrap Assassin also make no noise while in the air, but both have decent sound effects when they are used.

I think it would be a nice start to add in-air sound effects to these items and possibly give the Flying Guillotine a sound effect when the item is initially thrown. The projectile itself might need a more apparent visual effect as well.
