The modmic is waaay better than the zalman clip on mic(granted it costs a lot more, but 30 bucks isn't exactly a lot of money) so if you're on the fence for the modmic, just get it and wait. Desktop mics can be fine for some people, but they pick up more background noise than something close to your face like a headset mic or the modmic.

When you're looking at the second link, scroll to the bottom and find this chart. Scroll down the chart until you see a price you're willing to pay, then hit CTRL + F and type the name of the product in question. You don't need to download anything to see what processor you have. Open the start menu and type "dxdiag" then hit enter. It will ask if you want to go online to check if drivers are WHQL signed or something, you can hit yes or no, doesn't matter.

While I agree with defy about headsets being overpriced, don't spend 40(EDIT: 50 bucks oh god) dollars for HD202s, you should be able to find them for half that. I've read a ton of great things about Superlux and their line of budget headphones. The "floating wing" style headband on the HD668B is a copy of the AD700, by far the most comfortable headphones I own, and I hear the HD668B is just as sweet.

I remember reading very good things about it on head-fi.

You might want to research this a bit more than I did, but it looks like the GameCom 780 is Mac compatible. In the top review the guy says it works fine for him on OSX.
