#444 Do you like the song above? in Music, Movies, TV

Oh man, KMFDM. Been a long time since I listened to them. I generally dig them and a lot of other industrial. You might check out :wumpscut: and Velvet Acid Christ if you like KMFDM, although the lyrics aren't usually in English for those.

In a different genre, I only posted in this thread again because I can't stop listening to this song:

#7 different types of thai curry in Off Topic

Massaman curry is, in my experience, the thickest curry, but it's actually super sweet.

My favorite to get regularly is green curry. It's a little thin, but pretty spicy and delicious.

Drunken noodles are super good, too, but not precisely a curry.

I never leave, since I'm technically employed by my university.

I am NOT looking forward to the undergrads coming back, though. :<

#50 Good Books in Off Topic

I'm a detective noir fan.

I love pretty much anything by Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. If you're new to the genre, I recommend The Thin Man.

More modern stuff, Warren Ellis does a great version of noir. Gun Machine was amazing.

#24 Medic LFT in Recruitment (looking for team)

I'm sorry for what I apparently did to you, noobies. I barely remember the time(s) I've played with you, I just wish you'd said something then. I really am working hard to improve at ALL aspects of the game, and am open to constructive criticism, even about my personality, but especially about my comms.

#7 uni bird courses? in Off Topic

Figure out what you're good at and what you aren't.

I've suffered in a lot of "easy" courses at university because busy work - especially writing - makes my eyes glaze over. Other people have recommended me courses, one was "you have to write a page every week on a TV show, it's super easy", and I barely choke out the page and am utterly miserable in the course and my grade suffers. In this respect, entry level humanities courses were never good for me.

By comparison, math and programming courses came easy to me so beginner programming courses were what I took to bring my grade up. Writing a thousand lines of code is easier for me than writing a thousand coherent words, so if I'm going to take a course that revolves around "busy work", I'd rather it be programming work.

That said, it's also good to have variety. Spending 4 hours doing programming work seems a lot harder than spending 2 hours doing programming work and 2 hours doing math. Finding a mix that's good for you is important.

"Easy" courses also depend on your university - most of us couldn't tell you what's easy at your university in specific. Check sites like http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ to find out who's an easy prof. A general rule is "the lower the number, the easier it is", although this depends on subject matter and has some variation in terms of workload.

#9 a ham sandvich LFT 6s med in Recruitment (looking for team)

I've stalled on giving this guy a second bump because I feel that's unheard of, but here goes.

You want him on your team. The reason you haven't heard of him is because he's one of those people who comes in, is a nice enough guy, and gives it his all. No drama. No shenanigans. Just a chill guy who will work super hard and play his best. He will be the med your team needs him to be. Try him out.

It's not that she's physically hot, it's that listening to her talk for 10 minutes makes you want to fuck her. Or... I don't know, not even fuck her, just hang out naked together and be chill.

#96 the state of tf2mix in TF2 General Discussion

1) It's not remotely clear what the admin request process is. I know myself and some others would be happy to help in any way we can.

2) I've complained to admins about very very specific stuff and nothing was dealt with and I was told that it was "impossible to do anything about shit like that". I'm still too new to 6s to forgo your channel completely (plus, I actually like 80% of the people who frequent it), but some of these things did make me take some time off.

3) Are offclassing rules posted publicly anywhere? It seems like it's pretty often the other team runs an offclass for what feels like the entire game, and it seems hard to call them on anything except "being bitches".

#27 the state of tf2mix in TF2 General Discussion

I love #tf2mix. I, too, was not around for the "good days", and certainly I'm guilty of some of the idgaf QFing (although I do it rarely (I prefer semi-serious QFing)).

Some of it's the captain system, and troll momentum. People seem reluctant to leave mix when they have a team they like and go somewhere like tf2lobby to dick around, so they surf the captain games and guarantee they can get the same team consistently and stomp/troll. I've medic captained at times specifically to stop this, because I hate fun.

There's also been some ill-advised distribution of mumble admin in the last 2 days, which I'd reconsider. I hate seeing my pocket jerked out of mumble by some kid who thinks it's funny to dick with his friend without regard to the rest of the team that's actually playing a semi-serious game.

But... I mean, I also don't think I appreciate where the resistance to meta changes comes from. The 6s class distribution is what it is because of an optimization process that happened. If a team's running pyro to mid, show them why a scout/soldier is better. Kill them. Similarly, a team shouldn't be able to get away with spawncamping forever. Figure out a way out, even if you have to wait for respawns.

Also, it seems like, in mix, there's no punishment for leaving. If someone's seriously wasting your time, or you can't handle your team, request a sub and don't stick around.

#27 my mom is scared in Off Topic

Call his parents and the police, in some order. There should also be a child services line which you could call - rather than just police, it's possible that someone more specialized for troubled children should be involved at this point.

Locks are also a big deal.

I would not think to fight this kid. You are (mostly) a sane person, and have limits. His brain works differently, and he has different stopping places.

As an example, I have 4 inches, 50 lbs, and 3 years of boxing training on my sister, not to mention weightlifting, but she definitely wins in a fight because I try not to kill her. (Last time we fought, it wasn't a fight - I was reading a book, she walked up behind me, wrapped both hands around my neck, and squeezed. I haven't been back for more than a day since).
