#12 Mouse hunting? Here's a great thread for you :) in Hardware

Thanks for the reply.

Any thoughts on the Corsair m40, btw?

#9 Mouse hunting? Here's a great thread for you :) in Hardware
PlatypusAll the zowie mice (except mico, it has it's own set of issues) have pixel walk, wonky DPI steps (that lie BTW, they're not accurate to what they say, and not consistently so from mouse to mouse, I assume this is because of tiny imperfections in the non-standard lens), and debilitatingly low LOD.

That said, still solid mice.

A few questions:

I haven't noticed any pixel walking. Do you have a source confirming Zowie mice suffer from this?
Which step is the "non-wonky" dpi step?
What's wrong with low LOD?
What mouse has superior tracking?

Thanks!

CL edition--much better scroll wheel.

The other Zowie models are just as good, just different grips.

#5 Looking for a new headset. in Hardware

I highly recommend you get a pair of headphones and a cheap desktop mic instead. Much more bang for your buck.

For gaming, I'd recommend the ATH-AD700's--economical, top notch sound placement with a wide soundstage, detailed highs and mids.

Funny, I wrote the same thing and used to use that :P Adapted it from my spy viewmodel script.

Good stuff.

Not this thread, but this one:

It sold me on Zowie, so I'm grateful. You might also find this a helpful resource, too:

#1 Should a hard line connection give lower ping than wireless? in Hardware

After hearing time and time again that a wired connection is essential to gaming, I finally hunkered down and drilled some holes (heh) and laid some wire.

Result: a small boost in upload bandwidth. Same ping. That's it.

Is this to be expected? I was hoping for a bit lower latency, but my ping is exactly the same.

Edit: title should have ended with "than wireless". Oops.

#30 why does my pc run everything like ass in Hardware

The best thing you can do to raise your FPS is to disable all unnecessary services in Windows.

Razer GameBooster will disable most of these for you, and re-enable them once you exit the game. Do a little reading and disable the others manually.

Disable the Steam overlay for a boost, too.

Goodluck, downpour.

Edit: wow, SSD's ftw D: Your old HD must have been full to the brim and crazy fragmented.

#4 steam overlay in Q/A Help

You'll save ~10 frames by disabling the overlay, FYI.

If you have viewmodels off and sometimes mistake what weapon you've switched to, try this:

Bind [key for x weapon] +weapon#
alias +weapon# "slot#;r_drawviewmodel 1"
alias -weapon# "r_drawviewmodel 0"

#8 Any way to make scattergun sparks more vivid? in Customization

Not really...maybe turn up contrast and/or saturation/color vividness in your GPU control panel?

Why do you want this anyway? There may be other ways to achieve what you're hoping for.

#30 Fps spikes (how many times it has been discussed) in Q/A Help
jason0597toothCheck your power settings and make sure your cpu isn't under clocking itself to save power/cool down. If it's under clocking to save power you can fix that through the power settings like this. If it's slowing down to cool off, you can fix that by getting a laptop cooling pad or making sure none of the vents are blocked off or clogged with dust.
I'll try that, thanks.

*EDIT* Seems like my PC was in balanced and not performance mode. I'll launch tf2 and see the diffrences
*EDIT2* No improvement :(

No improvement most likely because you're using Gamebooster, which automatically adjusts your power settings to "High" when in-game.

#28 Fps spikes (how many times it has been discussed) in Q/A Help

My preference is to have a balance between maximum performance and useful things which cost FPS.

Sorry if I sound overly defensive; I was addressing Setsul not you. I'm just a little tired of people demeaning me without provocation or reason. I hope that makes sense.
