#52 RGL S7 Advanced Happenings/Discussion in TF2 General Discussion

Hey guys, wanted to respond to clear about the scheduling issue presented.

mmrarkteHow does rgl actually schedule matches? rofl. my team plays dynasty fx death cult lmnop and goblin zone twice in 1 season with no bye and then this happens for another team
btw dynasty also gets no bye weeks so i have no idea how 2 teams get no bye weeks and 1 team gets 2 in 1 season

With how many teams were in advanced this season, the fact that 3 died meant we were going to run into duplicate matches on the last week. Unfortunately, there isn't any way around this without giving people matches. This being said, this also applies to BYE weeks being duplicated for a team. Quoting Tery below, he is correct and this is the exact reason we moved the BYE from Goblin.

Tery_Also to be fair, since RGL is cringe and uses rounds% to determine tiebreakers between two teams of identical W-L, a bye is actually (usually) detrimental for teams fighting for playoffs.

We wanted to give LMNOP and GOBLIN the opportunity to break into playoffs this season, with BYE weeks potentially ruining those chances because BYE weeks only give 1 round won. A big factor in this is because Advanced is top 4 for playoffs instead of top 8, because the smaller size of Advanced this season.

Tery_Edit: They actually did the exact opposite from last season. Last season they prioritized giving bye weeks to prevent rematches (despite it fucking over teams on the bubble). This season they prioritized giving rematches and letting the bye fall to teams not in the running. Just RGL things.

Taking into consideration the teams that did get screwed over, its important for us to try to find ways to adapt and improve with how we run things. I don't think there's ever going to be a perfect resolution where everyone is happy, but feedback is appreciated so we can improve as the seasons come and go.

Hunter_2_0I feel like teams that die should just have their results vacated so that every team gets a win against them. I think I'd rather have a few empty matches on the schedule than whatever clusterfuck goes on with the week by week scheduling every season. It also shouldn't feel like a race to claim your free W from the bottom ranked teams before they die.

This might as well be a BYE week regardless, because FFW don't give you full match points, just the same as BYE weeks. With all this being said, if anyone has any questions or wishes to discuss, feel free to continue the conversation here or DM me at reno#0019.

#29 RGL: Money and Development- A Spectator Suggestion in TF2 General Discussion
wonderoflim not saying ur policy is set in stone, im saying its dumb and laughably inconsistent. if u want another funny example, zaboomafoo (undoubtedly top 3 adv demo right now) was not class restricted in main this season, but i was on soldier after having just played on the same team together.

I wanted to pop in to see if I could help clarify why we make some of these decisions. First, I appreciate everyone raising their concerns on the matter, I always recommend people to send over their suggestions so we can improve how we run things.

Something I have heard a few times was having a set in stone rule for ringers, but I think room for interpretation is always good and needed for something like this. I honestly feel like there would be more people restricted if we managed it that way. Lets use Zaboomafoo as an example... We try to restrict people if they have received top 2 or 3 in the division they are playing in, or lower. Considering Zaboomafoo has only reached mid Advanced twice, and upper mid-main, it would make no sense to restrict him even if people think he's "a top 3 demo in Advanced".

We did try to be more relaxed about restrictions this season, and even based restrictions on the overall skill of the team to avoid stacks that Scream mentioned earlier. Typically, if we restrict one person from a class and not the other, it is likely because they either were top 2 in the same division or higher, or played mid-Invite. Of course, this system is never perfect. If anyone has any suggestions on other ways we should handle this, please let me know.

wishIn HL, if my team knows we need a ringer, we literally just roster them to prevent the other team from shopping for a forfeit win. That's why you should never decline a ringer who isn't rostered -- they can just roster and you look like a fool for denying them

Well then I suppose they should have rostered Asterisk before the match.

wishWhy would a team deny a ringer that would be allowed to play if they were rostered thoughwishThere is absolutely no reason to deny an advanced player (with a negative record) to ring in Main regardless of what class they're playing

Because that's the difference between a ringer and a sub. You're allowed to reject ringers if they aren't a default ringer. That's why we have the default ringer rule, to protect teams.

The issue was that Asterisk was claimed as a default ringer. By the rules, he wouldn't classify as a default ringer in Main. The enemy team is allowed to reject the ringer because of this. He wasn't added to the roster until 9/29, a day after the match was supposed to originally happen. Asterisk is allowed to play in Main, but it's in the other teams ballcourt if they want to approve them or not in regards to them ringing for the match as long as they aren't a default ringer. That's why people roster subs instead of having ringers.

ElenaManettahexuuur obviously not familiar with the fact that this situation started in week 2 because hub tried to scum a ffw off of reize. either know what ur talking about or shut up :)
I'd actually like to know a bit more about the situation, particularly why the original ffw was overturned?

The original FFW was overturned because they tried to ring somebody in advanced (which makes them auto not qualify as a default ringer) as a default ringer and then they submitted the FFW and left before contacting an admin.

While we want LAN to happen as much as everyone else, we do have to be mindful of Covid and make sure we are providing a safe space, and make sure people not from the US are able to fly in.

#1 Stepping down from Head Admin at UGC in TF2 General Discussion

It is the end of an era for me at UGC. I’d like to thank everyone there who has worked with me from my time of being hired to now. I was hired for UGC back in 2018, and have been helping lead and run the past 10 seasons. While I am staff over at RGL, this statement does not reflect or represent any ideas from RGL.

Over at UGC, we have always tried to keep up a consistent work ethic and have spent over a full decade of proud work for the TF2 community. Over time as I have been busy with my own life, a noticeable shift has prompted me to reconsider giving my time over to UGC. This is a decision I have already spoken about to the team, and have already taken a retired role. I believe everyone is subject to the saying that sometimes change is good, and I hope with this, UGC will continue to evolve and grow.

To those who reached out to me personally to thank me or give me honest critiques throughout my years here, your words meant a lot more to me than you probably expected. I think it is important to realize that we are real people too, doing free community work. The random hate and harsh words I have received because I now represented a league with years of backlogged issues has nearly made me quit several times. It is amazing the amount of people who don’t even know who I am will threaten me because their pending issue isn’t resolved in their favor. It should never be expected of staff to have to take abuse quietly, admittedly, I am very guilty of this. To the people that were kind, and thankful, and gave me ideas to help UGC, you made it worth it.

I would lastly like to address recent bans inside of UGC. I have not been involved in the most recent bans within this past year, and have kept myself separate from the AC team. I hope the necessary changes can be made to the team to ensure accurate decisions.

Thank you to everyone who has played over these past few years!
