Madrid overpaid for Bale sure, but I don't think Ozil's sale was an attempt to curb the costs. Ozil is arguably the world's best CAM (lol at the guy who said he is overrated), but his style of play does not fit as well into the flanking attacks and now Isco's emergence. Apparently Man Utd offered 40 mill (10 less than Ozil) for Khedira, a player that is amazing no doubt, but dispensable because of the new signings.
Ozil's sale seems mainly tactical. Madrid do not give fucks about 'curbing' the cost. Bale fits the Galacticos perfectly, he is a British player who they haven't had in awhile, and is molded to be a superstar. He is young, very marketable, and is still quite good in his position. They will recover the costs based off that alone.
