#9 ire has passed away in TF2 General Discussion

I don't think I'll ever stop gushing about what a joy it was to work with ire. Their dedication was limitless, their spirit was infectious, and they had grown so much from when they first joined tftv/the overall competitive TF2 scene. They were a hell of a producer assisting those who were broadcasting the matches with all of the little details to elevate the production. Their impact was well known amongst those behind the scenes of the casts.

Rest in peace, ire. I'm going to miss the hell out of you.

Allow me to try to help. WHY is it seen as racist for white people to say the n word? This is an incredibly basic question, but I have to preface my point with it because it seems to be getting lost in translation. It's racist because it is associated with chattel slavery, when black people were seen as property and not as human beings. It's racist because even after slavery, whites continued to use it as they lynched black people and as they enacted Jim Crow laws to replicate the same racial caste system. It serves as a painful reminder to many people of this legacy of oppression, and also of privilege, because there's no equivalent word that can be used against white people to remind them of a similar dark time in history, because there was no such dark time.

Now, as is plainly obvious to see, a lot of black people have reclaimed the word as, if not exactly a point of pride, a point of defiance. Of course, this topic is debated in the black community all the time, and there are definitely people who think the word should be retired entirely (and maybe even a few outliers who think that the stigma associated with white people saying it should be lifted in order to fully overcome the word's history, but I guarantee you that's not the majority). Still, it represents a tiny but important way in which black people can reference their collective history with a single shorthand. Context is obviously important.

A bunch of white people deciding that they have the authority to declare the word verboten and actually punish black people for using it does not look like being a good ally. It looks like it's borne out of the same impulse to control people of color and tell them what they can and can't do. It's actually at least as racist as saying the word itself.

#20 best series of all time? in TF2 General Discussion

I'm sadly relatively new to the comp scene and missed a lot of the good stuff from 2015-2018, so I'll pick something newer.

My two picks (both series I did production for, coincidence?) are either the S4 Main div. bronze match or the yomps memorial tourney grand finals.

That Main bronze match featuring an incredible reverse sweep and map disadvantaged comeback. The yomps tourney had no stakes and no prizes, but it felt different and the want for that title was incredibly high. Made for some very special moments, great action, and of course the jay spoons.

perfectionas a well known member of the tf2 community, infamous really, i think i should write or cast. my prestine vocabulary will really set me apart from other potential applicants, as who else will call b4nny a permarandom? a fanboy? a gurney? Me. Who else will be able to confidently point out the matchups side by side? Me. Yight > b4nny bc yight got more points on me in mge than b4nny. Its that simple. Well, that's fair I suppose. You can blame players for yelling uhhh unwelcome things when he used to throw it to match comms during casts. Personally I prefer to see all of the player's perspectives during casts to catch all the action, but then again I'm only VERY biased on that.
