#6 properly centered VTF 1:1 yz50/konr wings remake in Customization
crespiI'm sorry if this question is stupid, but is there a way to have the dot in the middle be one color, while the "wings" are another?

not through tf2's settings, no. The dot is a part of the cross hair VTF, so it's basically impossible to change the dot separately from everything else. I can make a crosshair for you with a desired color however. Or, I could send you the Photoshop layer files so you can do it yourself

#2 properly centered VTF 1:1 yz50/konr wings remake in Customization

change log:

v3: completely remade crosshairs again. See page 2 of the thread.

v2: completely remade crosshairs
-pretty much truly 100% guarantee batteries not included 1:1 now
-increased the resolution, crosshair may appear bigger compared to v1. Still 64x64
-added "og" version for people who like the uncentered "hud xhair" look
-no solly crosshair this time because like nobody uses it anyways and every time I try to upscale it photoshop spits out some horrid jagged garbage no matter what resizing filter I use

v1: release

how to update:
replace old VTF file with new ones in the google drive

#1 properly centered VTF 1:1 yz50/konr wings remake in Customization

hey guys. Many people liked the last yz50 crosshair pack that I made, but after receiving feedback (and also just looking at it myself) I found that it was actually quite inaccurate to the original crosshairs in a lot of different ways (2 pixels too wide, wings were too "thin", too small, etc) as well as me not accounting for yz50 playing on a low resolution. Basically it looked like shit in higher resolutions than 1024x768. And so I've remade the crosshair, made it look cleaner and more "hi res", and properly centered it... again. If you want to see my old post you can find it on my profile. If you just wanna download the crosshairs, feel free to scroll down to the bottom of the post. Otherwise, here's some background info on this project.

a short history of the konr/yz50/clockwork wings crosshair
history lesson by konr himself:

example footage from the original 3 versions of the crosshair:

purpose of creating this remake
the original crosshairs were formed by using an old technique where you use a font file with the "wings" instead of alphanumeric characters, and then displaying it in the middle of your custom hud, overlaying it on top of the default "seeker" crosshair (cl_crosshair_file " ").

The problem with this font method is that it's super inconsistent across resolutions, and is extremely difficult if not impossible to truly center properly due to the crosshair being a text file instead of an image. If you look carefully you can actually see this phenomena in the videos above. On top of that, many of the default tf2 crosshairs are improperly sized (odd resolution makes it impossible to center on your screen), asymmetrical (on the seeker for example, the left side is not mirrored equally to the right side, they are both unique and look quite strange at certain scales), and are low res. The biggest issue however, was that because the wings themselves are a HUD element, they stay on your screen no matter what crosshair was being used. Imagine the wings on the sniper crosshair lol. A VTF crosshair solves this by being perfectly centerable, and doesn't stay on your screen across multiple different weapons and crosshairs.

Additionally, other remakes tend to look completely off whether they are also improperly centered and whatnot. Some of them even look like they were drawn by hand. I wanted to do better. I wanted to make a more accurate, properly centered, and horizontally (and vertically for some xhairs) symmetrical version in the form of the more robust VTF format to fix these issues.

how this is different
This is the process I used to make the new crosshairs:

 1. Use the original wings font from yz50's HUD and create a text layer in photoshop
 2. Rasterize it
 3. Make the left and right parts of the wings identical mirror images of each other
 4. Create a new layer underneath containing the default tf2 seeker crosshair
 5. Repeat steps 1-3 for the default seeker since it has the same issues
 6. Export the entire image as a VTF file

The result is that if you compare my new wings with videos and screenshots of the original three, mine look like nearly identical, but just higher res and centered. Also you can change the color of the entire crosshair including the wings, unlike the HUD crosshair method.

"og" (v3)
og style is for those who want the slight left-misalignment back for whatever reason, which makes the crosshair even more 1:1. The center dot is still properly centered, but the wings are shifted by 1 pixel to the left like they would be if using the original hud xhair method.

you may need to find the weapon script files on your own

Make sure to set your crosshair to "none" in your TF2 console by typing the following!

cl_crosshair_file ""

bonus tip: if you want to make your crosshair look exactly like clockwork's and you are on 1080p, use the OG crosshair and set your cl_crosshair_scale to 22.
special thanks to yz50 and konr for making some of my favorite crosshairs of all time

#29 konr/clockwork/yz50 Wings REDUX: Modern VTF Wings! in Customization

I've updated all of the yz50 style crosshairs. You should probably download the updated zip file on the Google Drive so you get these new ones lol

2.0: Updated all wings variants of the crosshairs!

 • They're brighter
 • They're ordered properly (some layers were in the wrong order for certain crosshairs)
 • They have outlines (yz50wings only, will make more for others whenever I feel like it [probably never until someone asks me for it cause I'm lazy])

WTF do I do with this?
I'd assume that if you're on a website like this you'd probably already know how to install basic TF2 mods but FINE I'll tell you.

1. Click on the download button at the bottom of the main post and then choose between two of the zip files in the Google Drive folder:
 • yz50 wings REDUX.zip (contains the mod which you can drag and drop, and also includes the weapon scripts that I use personally)
 • images only (contains only a png, vtf, and vmt file for each crosshair, for advanced users who might want to add these to their existing crosshair mods)
2a. Open the zip file and put "yz50 wings REDUX" into your tf\custom folder.

2b.If you'd like to use my weapon scripts, open the folder named "ktaeoh's weapon scripts" and drag the scripts folder into the parent folder and overwrite all files as so:

https://i.imgur.com/P44HbWQ.png

3. To set a crosshair for a weapon, go to \scripts and open the script you want to edit.

4a. Scroll down or use Ctrl+F to find "crosshair69", and replace it with one of the 5 provided crosshairs:
 • yz50wings (wings combined with the default seeker)
 • yz50wingsnodot (wings combined with the default seeker but with no center dot)
 • yz50sollynodot (wings combined with the default quartered circle)
 • yz50solly (wings combined with the default quartered circle AND the dot from the default seeker)
 • wings (plain wings)
 • yz50medic (wings combined with default medic crosshair)
 • yz50wingsshadow (yz50 wings with a shadow behind it)
 • yz50wingsoutline (yz50 wings with a black outline)

4b. For example, if I wanted to use yz50wings for the scatterguns, I would edit tf_weapon_scattergun.txt and change the crosshair section from this:
"crosshair"
{
"file" "vgui/replay/thumbnails/crosshair69"
"x" "0"
"y" "0"
"width" "64"
"height" "64"
}
to this:
"crosshair"
{
"file" "vgui/replay/thumbnails/yz50wings"
"x" "0"
"y" "0"
"width" "64"
"height" "64"
}
You need to change every script to one of the crosshairs, or you will get a missing texture on your screen. If you just want to use a stock TF2 crosshair, replace that whole block with one of these:

crosshair1~7 and the "default" (cl_crosshair_file default) crosshairs
{
"file" "vgui\crosshairs\replace this with crosshair1~7 or default"
"x" "0"
"y" "0"
"width" "64"
"height" "64"
I'm too lazy to post all of the correct values needed to use the cl_crosshair_file "" crosshairs since they're all defined by coordinates due to the fact that they're actually just on one big vtf file, but if anyone wants to know how just leave a reply down below and I'll answer asap.

People who use no explosion scripts, read this!
If you use a no explosion script, you need to do a couple of extra steps.

5. Find out what particle effect you're using by opening the no explosion script mod's folder/VPK (you can open .vpk files by downloading GCFScape here) and opening any of the weapon scripts. The line you want to look for looks like this:
"ExplosionEffect" "insert explosion particle here"
"ExplosionPlayerEffect" "insert explosion particle here"
"ExplosionWaterEffect" "insert explosion particle here"
6. Copy whatever custom particle effect you're using and go to the same weapon scripts in the yz50 wings REDUX folder, and replace the three values with the custom effect in their respective files.

7. Get rid of the no explosion script mod. It will overwrite the crosshair mod, and replace both the explosion effect and crosshair to whichever ones the mod sets it too, which prevents your crosshair from working. This is because the no explosions mod uses the same file as my crosshair mod, and will overwrite it with it's custom particle effect, along with it's (default) crosshair values.

8. Set your crosshair to "none" in your TF2 console by typing the following:
cl_crosshair_file ""
9. DONE!

TODO:
