#85 Good Books in Off Topic

I'd recommend Borges to anyone. Ficciones is amazing would be a great place to start

Ficciones emphasizes and calls attention to its fictional nature. The choice and use of literary devices are conspicuous in the stories. Naomi Lindstrom explains that Borges saw an effort to make a story appear natural "as an impoverishment of fiction's possibilities and falsification of its artistic character."

#8 MP3 Players? in Off Topic

I'd shy away from iPods, as that really marries you to itunes. (you'll have to buy all your stuff in AAC on the itunes store, which doesn't have great support; also a real drain on system specs)

In my experience, iPod classics break after 9-12 months of regular use (been through 4 of them). Given the classics have moving parts (and especially if you're running with it regularly!), the nano's are preferable. After you get a replacement, the warranty is only 90 days, which isn't great. Perhaps I have just had bad experiences. Also, I've never felt the need to carry around my entire library, but perhaps others do.

Cowon make some really sexy mp3 players, but they are quite expensive. iirc they do support aac (one of the very few that do) so would be a good transition if you have used iPods exclusively beforehand

I have also heard good things about the sansa clips.

#27 What do you want to see in a HUD? in TF2 General Discussion

I like to see as little as possible, just the essentials. Less is more.

Also Garamond. Sexy ass font (would settle for Caslon or Baskerville). (I would make one myself if I wasn't so ham-fisted)

#44 fps drop recently? in Q/A Help

Would changing fps config help? Would changing dx8 to dx9 (or reverse) help?

It is honestly becoming unplayable. Would there be a way to submit a complaint to valve, or would it be better to all pile into a thread on SPUF?

keeping a close eye on this thread. If I do try putting mat_phong 0 into my config, is it the config in common, or the one under my user name? Cheers

#9 what 'rate' for TF2? in Q/A Help

Yeah I made another thread about them, my router is 5 years old and apparently was cheap and bad when we got it.

I already uses chris' fps, but I probably ought to switch to one of the more serious ones. I was getting 200-300 frames with my fibre optic connection at university, and now it's all over the show. Never had frame drops until I moved back home.

thanks for your advice

#7 what 'rate' for TF2? in Q/A Help

I've been having similar problems to OP.

I copied and pasted the thing for the config earlier and noticed some improvements (still randomly disconnecting the internet and getting frame drops, but they are less bad and less frequent). Is there anything I can do in addition to help? or more specific values I can set?

On speed test I just got
down: 2.09 mbps
up: 0.79 mbps

thanks

thank you ;D

I was actually going to ask - I was going to make it the Northern Irish flag (where I'm from) but that's not an option. However, Scottish, Welsh and Irish are all available. Is this website secretly run by Republicans?!
