#412 GXL LAN Fall 2014 in News

i feel like i could organize a $20 buy in per player tournament with 7 players per team then do a draft friday night and put the money toward alcohol for Saturday or just make a smaller prize pool and the feeling of friendly competition would be there.

I really dont understand what the incentive for a team showing up as 6 is to pay $120 to feed it to the CEVO P players pockets.

Especially since its essentially 1 day of playing

my issue is you've mentioned a $2k prize pool, then youre asking for the community to drop another 2400 (20 teams @ $120), bringing your prize pool to $4.4k.

The 4.4k is now just an added bonus for CEVO P's current ~ 6k prize pool.

The 'community' is now watching CEVO P finals on Friday AND Saturday night, and the concept of competition is somewhat irrelevant especially for people whose friends are all in CEVO P.

So what's the issue with a pug setup with a draft/captains?

Nobody is asking for invite players to not be included, nor questioning how much of a shit you give about anyone.

The point I was trying to make was you are recreating CEVO finals two nights in a row with your current setup, and there are ways to fix that and make the event a good time that don't involve excluding anyone attending.

And I really don't care at all about whether or not I go home with a paypal transaction, I care that the 300$ I spend on the hotel for a weekend involves more than me going to a noname city to watch Mixup/Froyo rematches 2 nights in a row after they go to i52 a month before.

I hope nobody cares about the "prizes"

my suggestion would be:

we do a pug draft friday night during cevo p finals, set up our pcs according to our newly formed pug teams, go out, get drunk, show up saturday, play some tf2, leave, get drunk, finish pug tourney sunday morning, go home.

nothing you're saying takes into the consideration the fact there's no point in coming friday to the venue, the 80 people who are going to show up and cant compete in the tournament despite having paid the 40$ to show up, and the 96 who are coming to fight for 5th place.

there are numerous solutions to this problem that will make it actually community based, and make the prizepool not go to the top 4 teams.

? this isnt a community lan anymore, this is an extended cevo p season with spectators.

ill come back to this thread when i think there's anything that actually convinces me to bring my pc with me and pay $20 for the tournament i can't win with a team I can't play with my friends on.

You guys seem to be missing the point that you're asking for $60 to buy into a tournament that is only 1 day long and only announcing that its 1 day long AFTER you hype everyone to show up for a 3 day event

then on top of that you're telling people 'this will be the biggest lan in tf2 history' when in reality its just an extended CEVO P season for the top 4 teams with a larger prizepool.

I also never said anyone was going to stop playing tf2 when they got knocked out... im asking why bother even competing?

This isnt an iSeries lan so don't compare it to that either. This was advertised as a community ran LAN, where now I can't even make a team with my best friend clockwork because he has to play with Froyotech for his extended CEVO P season through Saturday.

Thanks.

Walking away empty handed actually had nothing to do with anything in my post.

thrasherwell put flame. When you put it that way I think I'd rather just work that weekend and make some money.

im weighing my options and im down to chill with tf2 nerds for a weekend, but its looking like playing has 0 incentive and will be a waste of money, time, and the risk of damaging my tower in the car ride/transportation

wait another point, theres no tf2 on friday except to watch nerds duke it out for cevo p in person?

you should change the gxl dates from friday/sat/sunday to just sat then... like why did i just book a 3 day weekend hotel from friday to sunday if i can literally only show up saturday with a pc for the day and leave that night.

You have 16 teams of 6 ~96 players + cevo ~ 24 players = 120 player maximum
You have 156 paid up already whith another 2 months until registration so lets assume another 40 people pay up and show up bringing your total attendance to 200 roughly, maybe more.
That leaves ~80 players unable to participate in the tournament which is only happening on the Saturday?

I think you need to reevaluate your position here... do you want a CEVO P final on LAN to take up an entire day of a 3 day weekend, or do you want 200 players to have a nerd out weekend on LAN for 2 and a half days.

People are literally going to show up Friday, stand around, get knocked out Saturday early since they have to play against the winners of CEVO P in a k/o tournament they can't possibly win, and then just chill around and watch.

Players flying in from Europe and all over the US for potentially 1-2 full hours of tf2 on 1 day of the 3 with a 20$ per person buy-in.

Help me understand this. Not trying to be difficult, just being real.

The reality you're setting up here is 200 people coming to PA Friday night to watch 4 teams theyve seen play a million times play TF2 live for no incentive other than potentially getting drunk then having them wake up to lose to those 4 teams they just wasted the night watching...

The concept of allowing the full CEVO P teams to play in the buy in tournament seems almost as ridiculous as making people play $20 a head for potentially 3 games of TF2.

Now everyone who isnt in CEVO P can compete for 5th place and the top 4 teams that just won money from CEVO can win more money from the rest of the people who attended to play for 2-3 hrs max and watch them.

or am i wrong?

so what youre telling me is i need to make a team that would win cevo p that has no players from cevo p in order to win the regular tournament?

sounds dumb as fuck

challenge accepted i guess...

you guys are being shitheads.

theres a lot of people in this community i would donate money to or causes worth donating to... hell, mesr scammed seanbud out of a full computer our first season of IM.

just because there are 'better things to donate to' doesnt mean this circlejerk of a tf2 community we've created here isn't down to lend a helping hand to eachother.

obviously i could fucking put money toward helping the elephant population in africa, or put clean water in south american schools, but that doesn't mean it's not a worthy cause to donate to someone in a time of financial instability.
