#101 baseball in Off Topic

I would love to watch the WBC but you just fucking can't without cable. I get by watching MLB games with an mlb.tv subscription and a vpn but there just is not an option to watch this shit without paying Xfinity another $40 a month plus the cable boxes. I could watch a pirate stream but then I have to deal with the broadcast cutting randomly and can't easily put the game up on my TV while I do other shit.

Even watching regular season games is a clusterfuck now. If I want to watch the Rockies lose 100 games this season (which I want to do because of mental illness) the experience is terrible. Because of blackouts I have to use a janky VPN setup that crashes the mlb.tv app on my Google TV constantly despite paying MLB $100 a season. Hell, next year even if I have cable I may not have access to my team's games because AT&T Sportsnet is folding and the broadcasting rights haven't been sorted out yet in my region. I just want to practice my masochism in peace man.

Fuck the MLB fuck Dick Monfort shout out Kyle Freeland thats my guy.

#30 Need help documenting b4nny in TF2 General Discussion

Oh I want to add that my main concern is that you may cherry pick his personal life and accidentally make him look good. I'm not worried about slandering B4nny and the scene by extension. I'm worried that you will spend all your time focusing on irrelevant drama from 10 years ago, frame those incidents as quirky little competitive character flaws, and leave out his habit of shitting on victims to protect the image of competitive TF2 as well as his refusal to cut ties with or even acknowledge the actions of a known predator.

elmaxoI myself have a huge amount of respect for b4nny and would want this to frame him in a positive light due to his sheer dominance over the competitive scene.

His dominance over the competitive scene is really the only thing worth respecting about the guy.

#18 Need help documenting b4nny in TF2 General Discussion

Check his friends list and ctrl+f nursey, ask him about his history of prioritizing the optics of the scene over the voices of victims, watch him pug for literally 20 minutes and see how he speaks to people. The concerns in this thread are valid, but I'm of the opinion that there isn't really a way to objectively represent b4nny without harming the scene. The rabbit hole goes deep and the more accurately you represent the man the worse he is going to come across.

The scene is cool and good but b4nny is a deeply flawed person. He is a bad representation of the scene. Not necessarily a terrible guy, but holding any piece of b4nny's out of game behavior up as a representation of comp is going to backfire. I love the idea of giving a history of his in game accolades, diving into past seasons etc. but if you're going to cherrypick his behavior in the last 15 or so years that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

So long as the conversation surrounding this guy stays firmly planted in his gameplay you'll achieve your stated goal. Stray outside that and you'll make him look bad because there have been many, many incidents in which he looks very bad.

Great player, you couldn't ask for a more fun person to have in mumble as well. They are a furry but won't rub it in your face which I appreciate. Very good pickup!

#7 All time best player per role in the world? in TF2 General Discussion

b4nny pscout and habib demo are the only players for whom you can't really argue their place on this list. When it comes to the other positions there are honestly a bunch of answers that are all fine. Just depends on how much you value legacy vs the level the game has been pushed to in the last few years. The newer guys are cracked even if some of the candidates don't have double digit championships/ lans.

#55 b4nny discussion in TF2 General Discussion

Its like he doesn't realize he is the only person making a living off of this game, period. Everyone around him plays as a hobby, a hobby they take very seriously but a hobby none the less. In a T1 esport flaming like this is at least comprehensible, but in TF2? This is something TF2 players choose to do with their time. They choose to play those pugs, knowing there will NEVER be a payoff other than accomplishing an arbitrary goal.

There are plenty of TF2 players trying to make it to the top of the game, but all of them are also actively weighing their decision to pursue that against the enjoyment the pursuit itself brings them. B4nny lost that context a long time ago. Honestly a lot of people in this community have lost sight of that. There are countless hobbies out there, and obviously you won't choose "winning in TF2" as your hobby if you're surrounded by people that make you feel bad. (In some cases folks choose to abandon that hobby when they realize they are making others feel bad. Part of why I don't play anymore.)

Some day Grant will wake up and realize that the pool of people who are willing to be degraded and disrespected to get to the top has dried up. In 5 years if the game is still going, FROYO will HAVE to be filled with people who enjoy being there. There is not an infinite supply of people with low enough self respect to subject themselves to this behavior.
