mostly talking about 4chan here sorry

memes in a colloquial context got really focused in 2005 and then spread to mean p much any facet of internet culture present on more than one website. People got really sick of this over-saturation and started to actively reject anything that could be considered "meme-y" or have widespread appeal. 2011 4chan anti-memes for example only really worked on 4chan, with shit like ISHYGDDT depending on the posting style and tools only found on 4chan. People started to reject this too as it eventually faces a similar problem with over-saturation, just on a smaller scale. People then started using ironic memes, like >tfw and the like that are a lot less contextual than anti-memes but are much more introverted when compared to early memes. >tfw doesn't really work off the internet because it usually involves a personal anecdote or feeling that would be embarrassing without anonymity. The current meme generation is sort of an ironic version of this with pepe redraws and shit being increasingly specific and alien. What started as personal expression morphed into an expressive mask that is more impressionistic of the user's true feelings. Rather than attempt to express realistic or real world emotions, memes continue to reject mainstream appeal and depart into even more fantastic or convoluted forms. Pepe went from being a mildly gross but realistic and grounded expression of masculine emotion into a character expressing the memer's deeper feeling in less concrete ways. Rather than revel in the joys of peeing with your pants down, pepe now shows schadenfreude as he alienates and tortures his friends. This desire to repel all other forms of internet culture characterizes the post-ironic meme age, where memes are designed to alienate instead of bring together.

u see that's the problem

u can't call memes memes unless you're being ironic about it but if you're being ironic about it yre behind the times so you have to be ironic about being ironic but u have to make it very clear that yr irony is making fun of the fact that memes are just images anyway so anyone who takes them seriously is stupid but you dont take them seriously yrself and you dont even really enjoy them but you enjoy the surrounding culture of superiority

DishSoapwhatever thats besides the point. what im really wondering is why the fuck are memes just so...
retarded.
i dunno i admit to being an autist, a retard, a memer. what the fuck you want to call me.
but a good fuckin 89% of memes anger me more than be funny

if you weren't around for 2005 era memes you're simply too young to appreciate the evolution

u see in 2005 we had memes, and they were stupid
then we realized in like 2010 that memes were fucking stupid so we stopped calling them memes
then we started using memes ironically to make fun of anyone who would actually care about them
then we started using ironic versions of 2010 memes and actually called them memes so we were meming post ironically
then we wrapped around again to using ironic memes but in an ironic way to make fun of people who would care enough about memes to make fun of them
now we're making fun of people who would make fun of people who would make fun of memes and we're saying its ironic but this level of post-post-post-irony has reached a point where its just frogs

frogs everywhere

but u cant call them memes

Pertomnifichow can anyone say anything but b4nny lol
bc its the 'cool' thing to do

I cant stand b4nny's personality but the fact of the matter is that he has the skill/gamesense to play every class at a high invite level AND has the accolades to back that up. He is the clear consensus best OVER ALL player in the game whether you like him or not. If you want to argue about who is best at a specific class then you I doubt b4nny would even be #1 on any of them except for Pocket

also b/c you can discuss being the best in a lot of different ways (see wilks meme or avast's post about time vs skill) and on some level any #1 player for a time period was the best and you might even be able to say they were the best in a way that b4nny wouldn't have been able to be.

the guy who invented the gunboats roamer style could be called more influential than b4nny and showed initiative and vision that other players didn't. He wouldn't be best in skill but he definitely managed to understand the role of his class better than others
Plat was at the same skill level with a lot less effort, so per unit of time or energy he managed to be the most productive
Yuki managed to be a top tier player while playing effectively IM or Div 2 for his entire career so it could be said he managed to be the best at getting better in an environment where you can't actually practice
Reptile was a god apparently when he played when the game was like 6 months old. You could argue being the best is the ability to synthesize strategies and gamestyles and not simply copy them. Old players had to have the ability to define how the game was played and not simply follow an established meta.
b4nny obviously has been the most successful player but that could be discussed as a function of his team leading rather than individual aptitude for fragging or thinking. Someone who can command a team isn't necessarily the best at working in one.

also people dickride whoever's frag vid they liked the most

#3 auto-collapse long quote blocks in Site Discussion

yeah im p sure it does but it'd be nice if you could set a cutoff so small images <75 pixels long or w/e don't get hidden since a lot of those are quotes or screenshots of text anyway

#1 auto-collapse long quote blocks in Site Discussion

like after 2-3 quotes or one quote being super long make it auto-spoiler the old quotes so pages don't triple in length if mustard decides to speak.

idk if you can autodetect images that take up a certain amount of screen space but those getting autohidden would be cool too

tertiary request that I just remembered: let me embed webms so someone can make a webm thread or smthn for simple one off game clips that can get xposted to reddit or w/e. Would be nice and encourage people to make content that can be exported to the pub player base easily.

DrPloxoLunacideJames "yuki" StantonIn all honesty, i could see this being a real argument vs b4nny. But then again, i don't know enough about the AU scene and only saw him making hella pocket plays at one LAN.

yr back to comparing potential vs results. 3 quotes down this chain it'll end up being "if yuki was NA he'd be a serious contender" or w/e

AvastI mean there's definitely an argument to be made that platinum could be a better player then b4nny by using the age old tf2 tradition of who tries less but still does good bc its a giant circlejerk in tf2 when it comes to bragging about how little you play

but b4nny by all categories is the best tf2 player besides the "I try so little" category

i've calculated all the tf2 wilks and this is the best tf2 player relative to time spent playing
