suikaI find it better to find out about animes that you might like on your own by reading their premises or whatever on MAL or Wikipedia. Then you'll find ones that are much suited to your taste or discover that you actually don't really like anime as a medium of storytelling. It's all subjective because animes themselves can be really idiosyncratic and too quirky for newcomers. That's why they're such a controversy.
Edit: Forgot about recommendations. Go watch Nichijou if you want to die of laughter.
I can never do this because quite often I'll think a show sounds super boring because of their synopsis. A la:
Steins;Gate is set in the summer of 2010, approximately one year after the events that took place in Chaos;Head, in Akihabara.
Steins;Gate is about a group of friends who have customized their microwave into a device that can send text messages to the past. As they perform different experiments, an organization named SERN, who has been doing their own research on time travel, tracks them down and now the characters have to find a way to avoid being captured by them.
time travel microwave
that actually sounds really dumb, but its incredible.
Watch Steins;gate
for real.
absolutely incredible.
also i feel like nichijou wouldn't really be a show he'd enjoy from what he was saying in the op...
