sleep paralysis also known as "night hag". a lot of people say when they have sleep paralysis they hallucinate an old woman that most call "the hag" basically what they say happens is she sits on you and that's why you can't move. i've had sleep paralysis a few times, i usually try to sleep on my chest and towards a wall every night so i won't see any hallucinations.
just remember that what you see during sleep paralysis is a product of your brain, so in a way you control what you see.

on a side note, something that's even more scary for me personally is sleep apnea. sometimes when i was younger i would wake up in a pitch dark room, gasping for air and not knowing what the fuck was going on for a few seconds. almost makes you not want to sleep.
