truktrukSpannzerI personally use the startup sound for Big Picture mode for message notifications; it's nice and smooth so I don't jump about a mile when it's 1am and I get a message while half asleep.
BP sound file: Steam\tenfoot\resource\sounds\activation.wav
Make a copy of it and name it message and stick it in Steam\friends and you're good to go
I tried this and it didn't play a sound at first. I restarted Steam and the file was overwritten with the default noise again. I tried again but made the sound read only, and it worked. Then I restarted Steam and the file was overwritten again.
If it's possible I think you're leaving out an important step!
Sadly you have to replace the file each time you start Steam, I've just made a batch file to make copying the file easier though. CHANGE THE FILE DIRECTORIES TO FIT YOUR SETUP.
•Make a copy of activation.wav and place it on your desktop
•Rename the file to message.wav
•Open Notepad/Notepad++ and copy this shit in:
@Echo off
xcopy /y C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\message.wav E:\Steam\friends
•Save the file as replacerino.bat
Run the file after starting up Steam and you'll be using the custom one.
You didn't have to do this before; an update in 2013 broke Steam sound modding 8(
