#5 TF2 causing screeching in headphones and mic. in Q/A Help

Microphone and rear speakers disconnected. Wireless keyboard turned off and unplugged. No avail, the screech in my headphones is still there (so I'd reason the microphone screech would be too).

Edit: I want to emphasize that it's only when TF2 is active and not tabbed out.

#3 TF2 causing screeching in headphones and mic. in Q/A Help

I've had speakers plugged in the read with the mic for ages, sometimes plugging in headphones at the front. I've just tried it with my mic in the front instead, to no avail. It happens even when there literally shouldn't be any output sound. I'll try with the speakers unplugged though.

#1 TF2 causing screeching in headphones and mic. in Q/A Help

Team-mates complain about being hypnotized by 1000 crickets in my room. PUG players calling me "that guy who's microphone gives you a headache" after 3 games. Every time I open TF2, I hear this screech in my own ears. It all goes away if I tab out of TF2.

I thought it was my mic or my soundcard, but testing would suggest it a software or at least firmware/settings issue. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I run linux btw.

P.S. I don't really have a way to test if there's anything wrong with the microphone, but I had a (very) beaten up headset that I used as a mic, which screeched, so I replaced it with this one which is fairly new (few weeks) and still had the problem, making me suspect it's the soundcard, but tonights testing makes me think otherwise.

#46 Golden Cap replacement Brainstorm. in TF2 General Discussion
kKaltUuActually we switched to a system that doesn't have a timelimit for GC rounds because evidence showed us (ETF2L) that rounds shorter than our (then current) system that did have a time limit.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing for any change, least of all making golden caps (or whatever replacement, should one happen) last longer.

nopeSmytherI still don't see what's wrong with golden cap. The only improvement I could think of is disabling respawns after 5 minutes or something, because it's only problem is it can go on for too long, not it being over too quickly. That's not an improvement, any variation on arena mode is trash

Yeah I know, the point being OP is complaining about golden cap being too quick, coin-flippy and unfair, when actually the only problem that could exist with it is that golden cap has no round time so can take way too long.

In ETF2L it's still 1 match against a new opponent each week (for the main season). 1 match consists of 2 maps, and teams have 30 minutes on each to get as many rounds as possible. A 5 windifference mercy rule (3 for koth) can cut a map short. If teams have equal rounds on the scoreboard after 30 minutes, before moving to the 2nd map/concluding the match, a config is loaded, and teams rup again for a golden cap. It's 3 points for winning a map without a golden cap, 0 for losing. 2 points for winning with a golden cap and 1 point for losing.

I still don't see what's wrong with golden cap. The only improvement I could think of is disabling respawns after 5 minutes or something, because it's only problem is it can go on for too long, not it being over too quickly.

DollyWhat's wrong with golden cap is that it seems like incredibly inefficient way to determine the winner, since for half an hour no team has gotten more rounds than the other, so to me just having one round to sum up upto 8 rounds in normal time seems a bit flimsy and decisive as it should be

No sale.

You've had half an hour to take more rounds than them. Now you're given one last round and you still can't take one off them? You have no argument in this case, in my eyes, for complaining that the loss is now unfair. It might seem coin flippy when you only look at the golden cap, but you have to include the context that after half an hour you're still on a stalemate after failing to use the time better than your opponent.

I don't know why association football goes with extra time rather than golden goal; maybe it's a TV time slots thing, but even there, if the teams are even at the end, they go to the most coin-flippy thing of all; penalty shootouts. That's like using 6 class-to-class battle royal mge rounds to decide the match.

OP never really explained what was wrong with golden cap in the first place. You're out of time and you've still drawn, so you need a tie-breaker and you need a fast one. Golden cap seems a fair compromise; one extra round to make the score uneven. The only thing worth considering is going even shorter. First to cap mid on the golden cap round, or whoever owns mid at the end of the maptime gets half a round.

kosWhat are the reasons to play ETF2L exactly?

Skill tiers, anti cheat staff, guaranteed 7 matches, very easy to make time to play for (so easy than despite both soldiers having exams for the first 2 weeks of the season, my team have managed to squeeze in both matches), easy to find players and teams with their recruitment section. To name a few.

kosI guarantee ETF2L admins would find a way to fuck it up.

That hardly sounds fair. What has ETF2L done to earn that reputation with you?

Edit: Genuine question, that last one. I've been away from TF2 for 2 years and never kept up with the scene even then, so I feel like I missed something. Something about sonny black, but I never got what the deal was and I've never had personally a problem with the admins.
