One politician here suggested today to abolish the senate and use this money on better surveillance. (Why this would work: It's irrelevant over here with our 6 governments, though if you're interested in the details of the horribly inefficient Belgian system - which I doubt -, there's some good sources out there).

It would save tons of money spent on career politicians that usually don't even show up in the senate. The left immediately rejected the idea, saying it's fear mongering, third reich behavior. Yet they haven't suggested anything themselves other than "being more tolerant".

You don't just decide to shoot down over a hundred people and bomb one of the biggest cities in Europe on a whim. Something on that scale takes weeks, hell months to plan, and at the point you decide to do so you are already extremely radicalized, that doesn't happen during the planning. I don't believe no one in his surroundings would have noticed he was saying weird things or acting out of the ordinary. There's also the obvious answer of them possibly having radical believes themselves and thus not noticing his views aren't normal. Nowhere does he state that he had a bad relationship with his brother, they lived in the same city and they had a family apartment - not stated to what extent of the family however. Molenbeek, a part of Brussels, the municipality in my country known for it's lax and "tolerant" attitude towards rape, harassment of women or gay people, violence against jews etc by Muslims is now branded the "Jihad capital of Europe" by the international press.
