clckwrkIt's astonishing watching the frags fluctuate in this thread from negative to positive. I read the initial post in this thread and I was confused as to what the point was. I scrolled down and saw that one guy getting -fragged into oblivion and I just assumed it was due to like a hundred or so b4nny subs. It's nice to finally see some rational arguments. Even following the argument recently I don't really see the point of the valve sympathizing. You are aware it's not good to have literally all of the update information and matchmaking information go through one person, yes? b4nny is not the community hivemind (in this sense, a collection of uniform opinions across all competitive players). And not to insult anyone's intelligence, but assuming he knows more than every other player on every aspect of how to improve TF2 and make everyone happy is ridiculously biased. It seems he's used as a singular point of hype for the update, while also being a constant reminder that he's the only existing bridge between Valve and the community, which achieves nothing but to marginalize the amount of work, effort, and time other competitive players and especially content producers/TFTV production have put into the game.
It's absurd that even the majority of those with knowledge and influence in the community cannot have an engaging back-and-forth with Valve about what's needed, what we should prepare for, even tentatively. We as a community have offered FREE SUGGESTIONS and free labor to keep the competitive community afloat for like literally 7 years. It's very understandable that anyone would be annoyed about the lack of information that's available. Signing NDA's and discussing closely with the company who holds the fate of the competitive game you love in its hands would be more than welcome. A valve tweet or blog post about the future update doesn't have to be a binding, pinky-sworn promise. It has to be a fucking update on the status of the update and potentially a few specifics that they're focusing on. Leaving the entire community sans one person in the dark is really annoying, especially when the only things I'm left with are hype-garnering tweets that could be placed on a motivational poster in a high school.
Nothing screams "let's work with the community to improve our game" more than putting them in the dark and only discussing changes with b4nny.

A big issue in discussing gun control is the media/general public's ignorance towards guns. Let's take the AR-15, big scary black assault rifle, right? Not really. The caliber (.223) is about the same as most hunting rifles, and most AR-15s manufactured are semi-automatic, such as the one used in the shooting. Given the circumstances, a pistol or hunting rifle could probably done as much damage in the shooting in Orlando (in fact a pistol was also used in the Orlando shooting). There is almost no reason to ban a weapon that accounts for less than 2% of all gun deaths in the U.S. while also being as deadly as a hunting rifle and pistol in terms of caliber and fire rate respectively.

Sure it might lower petty crime but with the state of poverty in inner cities, knives will be used instead.
Please explain to me how someone is going to walk into a crowded area and kill 50 people with a knife.
SpaceCadetGuns are not to blame for these shootings. Crazy is to blame for these mass shootings. In my opinion, the only way to combat these crazy shooters is to have responsible trained gun owners around who are armed and prepared to respond in defense of their life...
It's crowded, it's noisy, everone is screaming, maybe it's dark, there's a stampede, and you don't know what the fuck is going on. You don't know who the shooter is or where they are. You pull your gun out: what are you going to do? Shit there's a guy with a gun, better shoot him! Except that was also a concealed carry John Wayne cowboy who thought they could be a hero, and you just shot him dead. And killed the person behind him. And now someone else is shooting at you. Is this the original shooter, or do they just think that YOU'RE the shooter? Fuck knows, better shoot them.
tl:dr introducing a bunch more people with guns to a situation l ike this is unlikely to get FEWER people killed, unless they were ridiculously lucky enough to be in postiion to end it as soon as it starts.
Anyway arguing the "what ifs" about whether concealed carry citizens would help or not in these situations is pretty pointless, because all of the statistics point to one simple fact: the more gun owners out there, the more gun deaths there are.
America has a huge problem and I honestly can't believe how many otherwise reasonable people are just sticking their heads in the sand and pretending widespread gun ownership is a good idea regardless of what happens over and over and over again. Guess I'll see you in the next thread after the next mass shooting defending gun ownership while people bury their loved ones.

I mean it sounds unrealistic but mass stabbings are real and they can get especially deadly when a group of people go on mass stabbings together.
Also, a murderer could easily be deterred into walking into a place and shooting it up if 5 or 6 could be armed. The introduction of armed security guards could also deter shooters.
By the way, I really like that a lot of us can have civilized discussion on politics. This is what politics is about: working with others and their idealologies to solve a problem and not just blindly slinging shit at anyone who opposes you.

eeeTurinI'm not sure how assault weapons are any more dangerous than normal guns. The assault weapons ban was used to stymie gun control advocates who aren't properly educated on firearms. A hunting shotgun is just as deadly as an AKM in a crowded space.banning automatic weapons or military grade weapons basically only hurts small groups of rich hobbyists, the people least likely to use a gun like an idiot. Banning handguns would produce a much stronger effect on crime but way more people own handguns and attach utility to them, leading to way more public and lobbyist backlash. Gun laws in most countries are almost 100% backwards and ineffective because the people who are against guns tend to argue from hypothetical and moral stances rather than pragmatics imo
A weapons bill that reduced restrictions on higher end weapons and didn't touch hunting rifles but severely limited who can own a handgun would be super great. A lot of states have taken the first step with limiting permits or CCWs to a higher age for handgun owners.
Do you mean limit in a sense of "only x amount of permits can be given out In one year" or "x requirements must be met to require a gun"
The only "requirement" I'm against for getting a CCW is needing a "reason" for owning a gun. I always found that a bit too stringent.
