the only reason I ever disliked overwatch was the lack of actual arena-shooter mechanics, the ability for a player (if good enough) to win a situation or a fight off of simply being a better player with movement and aim actually having a huge amount of impact in a fight.
As far as I can tell these abilities do not hinder that, if only to add perhaps what I would think of as potentially a bit more depth considering they're going for more team-based gameplay otherwise it would just be Clan Arena the game which honestly does not have a lot of depth as a gamemode. Abilities in overwatch such as Soldier 76's aimbot, Reinhardt's stun, Pharah's literal barrage of rockets, mccree's insta-kill headshots completely detract from that in my opinion-- you can kill players with the click of a button and remove movement capabilities. None of the abilities so far in Quake Champions give an indication that it will lend you anything of that sort (the telefrag seems sorta unlikely since players can actually move around in a fight so if you happened to get telefragged it might mean you blow).
I can understand the skepticism but I really think this is going to be nothing like overwatch. The game doesn't seem to revolve around the added abilities like overwatch does, they are simply just there to differentiate the classes. At least that's the opinion I've formed, until the closed beta I'm as clueless as anyone else.
edit: Also unless I missed some key moment in that video all I see is someone who isn't very good at FPS games in general getting owned in what looks like a pretty unorganized DM fest gamemode in a game that no one quite yet knows much about. Basically a standard normal Quake FFA or TDM experience
