#29 Anyone use the Zowie EC1 evo? in Hardware
Lucky_ShotBecause I am not much of a tech guy, especially for mice, would you guys recommend staying away from wireless mouses as far as TF2 goes? Sorry my post doesn't really have to do with your mouse dilemma.

Well, there is only one wireless mouse that is worth buying - if you absolutely have to buy a wireless mouse, which is the Razer Mamba. Loads of people parrot the idea that all wireless mice are laggy, this is true about most mice but the Mamba is just as fast wireless as it is wired. I've owned a Mamba for years and it has served me well, but they are expensive, $100 expensive. The downside for the Mamba is if you are a low-sens player, the mouse is too heavy for low-sens, but it served me well when I played high-sens (4in/360).

TL;DR: Get a wireless mouse if you've got money to blow and are willing to look past the couple downsides, personally I would just get a perfect wired mouse (ie. Zowie EC1 eVo).

Bought an EC1 eVo the other week, fawkin' love it.

If anyone stumbles upon this thread in the future and is wondering if this mouse is worth it, here is my little write up on it:

Pros:
- Flawless sensor
- Really nice rubber texture that doesn't make my hand sweat like the rubber on my Mamba.
- Very lightweight, which is great for low-sens and FPS gaming (I'm sure this is great for all games really)
- Cable is really lightweight as well, since getting the mouse I am pleasantly surprised that it is not a braided cable (which adds weight/stiffness)
- Huge mousefeet, they glide really well on both my glass mousepad (Icemat) and my cloth mousepad (Qck+)
- No annoying drivers
- Great for palm gripping.
- "Notchy"/Heavy Scroll wheel - great for FPS games where you intend to only scroll the wheel a specific number of 'steps'.
- Comes with a spare pair of mouse feet.

Cons:
- "Notchy"/Heavy Scroll wheel - not so great for using internet browsers or games where you want to scroll in and out really quickly.
- Can't turn off the LED that illuminates the mousewheel.

$60 well spent. As you can see there are basically no real cons to this mouse...unless you find Huano switches to be too stiff, but coming from Omrons, it ain't that big of a deal to me.

YouTube is a huge piece of shit now, this shit happens all the time, not to mention sometimes needing to buffer for 5 minutes for a 1 minute video.

They need to get their shit together.

#4 Lightboost Effects in Hardware
frknI noticed a huge difference using lightboost on my Asus VG248QE.

I sometimes get this bug where i move in slow motion in source games (it is related to C++ somehow http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-635372.html )

When I went from 120Hz->120Hz lightboost, I thought I had that bug. Everything was so crystal clear, I thought I was moving much slower, but I wasn't. It was definitely noticeable. That being said, I didn't think it provided much of a benefit compared to 120Hz non lightboost. While there was less motion blur and tracking was a little easier, there was a slight increase in input lag. I think these 2 effects effectively cancelled out as far as tf2 goes. I think it may be more beneficial in games where enemies are camoflagued, etc. I concluded that I definitely preferred 144Hz, while 120Hz lightboost and non-lightboost were a tossup in tf2.

But this was just plugging my monitor into my friends desktop, now I'm back on my laptop stuck at 60Hz :(

Da fuq? Man I thought I was the only person who got that weird Matrix slow-mo bug...hasn't happened to me in a while, but holy shit was it infuriating when it did. Was always a crapshoot trying to fix it, let alone trying to google that 'slow-mo tf2' 'slow motion in my games' etc...

So you prefer 144Hz to 120Hz+LB?

It seems that 120Hz+LB is the option w/ least motion blur.

from here - http://www.overclock.net/t/1339384/zero-motion-blur-lcd-nvidia-lightboost-hack-looks-like-crt-looks-like-480hz

baseline - 60 Hz mode (16.7ms frame samples)
50% less motion blur (2x clearer) - 120 Hz mode (8.33ms frame samples)
60% less motion blur (2.4x clearer) - 144 Hz mode (6.94ms frame samples)
85% less motion blur (7x clearer) - 120 Hz LightBoost, set to 100% (2.4ms frame strobe flashes)
92% less motion blur (12x clearer) - 120 Hz LightBoost, set to 10% (1.4ms frame strobe flashes)

#11 First PC build, need suggestions/help! in Hardware

^^Just sayin', but GTX 650Ti is $90 @ Newegg right now w/ coupon code AFNJ0864 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162127

Not sure if that is the best choice of GPU though...

OP, are you located in the US?

Just curious because I am selling my 24" 120Hz BenQ monitor for $80 more than that crappy Acer, which you should absolutely not buy.

DrewIf it's a variation of IPS then the input lag won't be very good at all.

Well, no one is advocating this monitor for "super-competitive fps gaming"...the TN panels will obviously always be better at that job.

downpourOdissiusWell, the specs say 6ms response time. I'm not qualified enough to give you a much better answer than that, heh. response time =/= input lag

Like I said...I don't know how to measure the input lag so I really can't comment on it.

Not_MatlockThat sounds awesome. What kind of response time does it have? Any features available that are similar to LightBoost?

I really like the higher resolution, but I think for gaming, response time, and having a clear picture is more important. I might want to wait until these kinds of monitors become more common before I upgrade.

I have not heard of anything regarding LightBoost with this monitor, so I'd assume it's unlikely. I am still unsure of how to get LightBoost working on my BenQ...?

Yeah, I definitely agree with you - I will still continue to use my 120Hz BenQ for FPS gaming over this new monitor.

visitnigWhat about the input lag on this monitor?

Well, the specs say 6ms response time. I'm not qualified enough to give you a much better answer than that, heh. But what I do know, is that input lag on this monitor is reduced because it only has a single DVI-D input and no OSD (on-screen display menu) - both of those extra features add input lag to these monitors. Fear not though, you can still calibrate colors and settings using color profiles.

#1 That feel when 27" 2560x1440 @ 120Hz for $317 in Hardware

The feel of kings.

How you may ask? Qnix QX2710

"Oh, it's from eBay? Fuck that brah." Relax, relax...let me explain.

It's a PLS panel (which some say is just Samsung's version of IPS), though the pixels are different from IPS monitors. Some also think PLS has better colors than IPS.

From what I've seen most people easily hit 110Hz, if not 120Hz, as long as you don't have a garbage graphics card.

The bezel is of reasonable size, too bad it's glossy though, I'll be painting mine matte black. Also the anti-glare coating on the monitor is quite light and doesn't degrade the picture quality. Sooo much better than glossy if you ask me, and many others will agree.

Mine came with 1 dead pixel and 1 stuck pixel (likely the stuck pixel can be fixed), I ain't even mad though...the pixels are so god damn small it's quite hard to notice it. I don't have any backlight bleed on mine, some people have experienced bleed, but there is an easy fix.

The downside of the monitor is that the casing is cheap, which ain't that big of a deal to me. Although it is kind of annoying that you have to remove the back panel to take off the stem of the mount (if you want to put this monitor on a monitor stand with arms).

All in all, I'm really happy with mine. Definitely recommend it if you're in the market for basically the best bang for the buck/performance monitor you can buy right now. Also, the shipping from South Korea is so stupidly fast...48 hours, how is that possible? If you're worried about a warranty or it dying you can get a warranty from Square Trade for $50 for 3 year coverage.

Feel free to read user's opinions in the huge Overclock.net threads:
- Original Thread
- Overclock Results
- Monitor Club w/ Optimization Guides

TL;DR
Pros:
-27"
-1440p
-overclockable to 120Hz
-amazing colors
-cheap as fuck

Cons:
-cheap casing
-possible backlight bleed (though you can fix on your own)
-cheap monitor stand

#27 A Guide to FOV in TF2 in TF2 General Discussion
the301stspartan1) Are you clinically retarded? y-axis means vertical. Last time I checked I had to move the camera to see shit above me on any FoV in any game.

2) Your real FoV on a 16:9 screen isn't even 90 QED so I can only assume you are playing
on a non 16:9 screen. Yet you bitch about FoV? What the fuck is wrong with you?

3) Quake had a default FoV of 90 so not only are you an idiot or a bad troll but you also don't even care enough to back up your BS with information that takes 5 seconds to google. Competitive players would usually go for 95-110 which is what you are looking at in TF2. ZeRo4 used 90. But you don't know who that is.

Gtfo and never come back.

Lol I don't even know why I'm writing so angry right now I guess I have just read too much crap on the internet for one day today.

lol u mad as fuck

1) No shit it means vertical. However any game that has a lot of vertical gameplay needs more FOV than games that don't. That's why "90 FOV" isn't a problem in CS:GO. Hmm, I wonder why Tribes has a 120 FOV cap?

2) Who doesn't have 16:9 these days? TF2 looks more zoomed in than other games even at 16:9.

3) What's your point about default FOV? When you install TF2 for the first time on a fresh computer it defaults to 75. I have seen ZeRo4 in a few matches before, but what's your point about the FOV he uses? Another pro, Rapha, uses 110. Some pros use odd setups because that's what they are used to. Hell some pros still use 4:3 in CS:GO, when 16:9 has a distinct advantage. Anyone who has used OpenPlugin to set their fov_desired to 105-110 agrees with me that 90 FOV in TF2 is garbage.

There's a reason that 90 FOV in CS:GO feels normal and 90 FOV in TF2 doesn't.

arkonOdissiusthe301stspartanGood job. I assumed that my FoV was actually somewhat higher than 90!
And yet, it still manages to look worse than 90.
is this the idiot who wanted higher than 90 fov?

Yes, I must be an idiot for wanting more than 90 FOV in a "competitive" game that has so much y-axis gameplay.

Oh wait, what's that, every competitive game that had substantial y-axis gameplay before TF2 had a minimum of 105 FOV? Uncanny!

Pls go retard.
