#4 Steampipe 2 map folders in Q/A Help

#3
I thought the idea behind steampipe was to make things simpler? 3 map folders is kinda annoying.

Will the custom folder maps show up when I try to create a local server?

Thanks for your help and input

#1 Steampipe 2 map folders in Q/A Help

Just noticed that I now have 2 map folders for TF2 after updating to steampipe. Both are over 2 gigs and I'm trying to conserve space on my little SSD. Which one should I delete?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\maps

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\download\maps

Thanks

#5 Anyone running windows 7 on mac with virtual box? in Off Topic

I'm not proud to say it, but I've been playing TF2 on my Macbook Pro for a few years now so I'll tell you what I've learned.

Listen to these people! You've been told multiple times to install bootcamp. Just do it. It is the only way.

If hard drive space is an issue (with only a 128 gig SSD, it was for me) get something like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058AH2US/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title Buy another SSD or HDD and install Windows on that.

Installing Windows on there can be a bit of a pain since, for no reason whatsoever, Apple decided that you aren't allowed to install an OS through USB and you won't have a disc drive. There are two ways around this:

1. Replace your current HDD/SSD with your new one that you want to install Windows on. Put your install disc in and install it. When you get into Windows, one of the disc that come with your Mac has some bootcamp applications and drivers on it. Pop that in and install the drivers. Shut down your computer, put your OSX drive in the main bay and replace your superdrive with the HDD bracket I linked before with your Windows drive in it. Boot up OSX and install rEFIt http://refit.sourceforge.net/ That will load up whenever you boot up your computer and you can choose to boot into Windows or OSX.

2. If there ever comes a time where you can't get your super drive back in (stripped screws, you forgot it on the other side of the country, etc.) you are gunna want to follow this guide. http://huguesval.com/blog/2012/02/installing-windows-7-on-a-mac-without-superdrive-with-virtualbox/ Had to do this a couple times due to some corrupting SSDs. Then get the bootcamp drivers through Apples website http://support.apple.com/downloads/#macoscomponents and you should be good to go.

If hard drive space isn't an issue, then just do it! Why are you wasting time with virtual box when so many people have told you to bootcamp? Apple makes it SUPER easy to install Windows. Windows 8 is a fine operating system. I don't know where you got that idea. Microsoft wouldn't release a slower OS. There are so many articles about how it's faster.

My specs are i7-2635QM @ 2.00GHz with an AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB and 4 gigs of RAM 128 gig Samsung 830 SSD. I get ~120 fps. My computer literally sounds like a hurricane while playing.

That being said, if you are buying a desktop soon, just wait for that. It will be 100x better and easier than playing on your laptop.

#6 Changing Crosshairs in TF2 General Discussion

Unfortunately,

shlaner
alias medi "slot2; cl_crosshair_file """
bind 2 medi

won't work because of the nested quotation marks.

You'll have to create a new cfg file and call it something like xhair.cfg. In it, only put

cl_crosshair_file ""

and for whatever class you want that crosshair type

exec xhair.cfg

so for your example it would be

alias medi "slot2; exec xhair.cfg"
bind 2 medi

It's kinda a hassle but it is the only thing that works.

Bubberkillm4risaBecause the stock options are pretty bad.
Stock deals more damage

Because more damage = better, right? That's why the Machina is the best sniper. /s
