torritarguably i dont deserve a permaban due to the circumstances of my first ban (being groomed by a very popular community figure at 16 who received no repercussions at all after i tried to commit suicide and getting an alt account vac'd by cheating in private mge with my friends and streaming the whole thing) but in this moment of my life im much happier not playing tf2 and im not gonna dispute the ban. i actually cheated in mixes this time and thats that. ban deserved overall, length of it could be up for debate but i dont particularly mind at this point

I much rather prefer a 1-2 year ban once (or twice) and this is already done. The reason I brought this up is that jeven will not experience this because of a technicality as he had some vac ban already. He was a dedicated player that cannot play again, ever, even if he did indeed cheat.

Tobpeople who are banned can still play.
They can just dmix w their friends and any discords that dont mirror league bans.
You can even make a team that only scrims and never plays offis
I think you value offis as a metric for being competitive too highly.
Basically everyone plays way more mixes/pugs/scrims than offis.
They only lost access to 1 thing
Sure, but offis are something else entirely. You can't get that level of competitiveness and being part of the community anywhere else. Comp tf2 is structured around the league and offis, not dmixes. It's how people become friends, why they scrim, etc. Maybe it's because I have a hl background where we don't have dmixes but nothing comes close to offis or scrims preparing for offis for me. Jeven could have a scrim only team play very seriously with him and still experience games like before, but that won't happen. The point of my post is that when you ban someone as the only real league on the continent, you deprive them of something very meaningful that they basically cannot get anywhere else, so perma bans should be avoided.

I'm gonna give my regular hot take and say perma bans should mostly not exist when there's only 1 real league per continent. You're basically banned from competitive tf2 if the league admins (5 people) ban you. Kinda weird how tf2 admins chase bans so much. Last time I checked I had 3 IP searches on my steam account by ETF2L admins and I'm like a regular player. Can't think of any games where leagues do this besides maybe high level leagues or asian stuff. Jeven obviously likes playing comp and was an useful contribution to a dying scene. I don't blame admins for doing it as they (sometimes) have to be consistent with their bans and jeven already had a VAC or something but it's just something I think would be better for everyone.
