#3 TF2 Match Reruns Stream Question in TF2 General Discussion

They tried to do something like this in the last offseason, but as far as I know they only restreamed one game. I would love to see something like what https://www.twitch.tv/esl_overwatch does, just constantly streaming reruns if there are no live games to cast.

#46 cp_drudgery - 5CP in Map Discussion
MouldThanks all who played my map, even if it didn't turn out the way I hoped, it was a great learning experience. I know it sounds really soppy and weird, but it's hard not to be a little emotional about it.. I'll try to do better next time :--)

Drudgery had some very weird aspects to it. The ones that come straight to mind:
1. Even with the spire and two tetris things, mid felt vast and empty. Can't decide whether this is just a visual issue on my end.
2. The 2nd hold is, theoretically, crazy strong. I feel like teams did not play that high ground properly; I felt unassailable standing up there.
3. 2nd caps almost as fast as last, making backcaps when trying to push mid extremely dangerous, especially since you have to cover two flanks that are far apart
4. Last itself is strangely cramped. Most of the room by the far shutter is dead room that no one really wants to stand in. I did like the concept that last brought, though; trying to find a good defensive position is very difficult, to the point where I was considering forgoing a real last hold at all except in desperate situations and just trying to hold lobby. If the goal really was to make it difficult to defend, then the attackers need more props to play around. As is, they either play on the ground or have to jump up to the easily spammable ledges.

This map is full of weird, unfamiliar ideas, but I have trouble saying it's actually bad..

as an edit, i dont have time to make a real reply to you right now, but I want to clarify that other than my first point these weren't exactly meant to be criticisms. I more wanted to point out some unusual concepts that I think contribute to why people are having so much trouble adapting to this map.

#7 New Map Cup Data in TF2 General Discussion

Daytrip and TFCL both had some pretty major issues besides game mode. Nasty chokes and crazy bombs were the hallmarks for Daytrip, and the unplayable flank of TFCL was a whole other dimension of frustrating.

#4 New To Competitive I need some help! in Q/A Help

playcomp.tf is a great place to start, comp.tf and training.tf are great general resources.

accept that you will be wrong often, and also that many other people in this community are extremely jaded. the shit talk never ends, but if you keep playing, you will get better, and there are enough people in this community that you will meet people you like playing with. watch videos of competitive play here and there, try to watch some comp guides if everyone says they're good, no matter how hard they are to watch.

Pankeyman

this starts off like a standard pankey shitpost, but then he starts reading like a legitimate human being I could agree with about halfway through. is there something wrong with me?

just in case you didn't know, this guy snapped, went on a killing spree, and killed himself in the end. no shit he was messed up. between Asperger's, schizophrenia and not having anyone he felt he could open up with, the dude made a call for help with some weird ass blog posts. quelle surprise.

#170 ban b4nny in The Dumpster

b4nny wins his own tournaments. b4nny wins his own map, gets rolled everywhere else. I bet he wins his own pugs too. the evidence is clear, now we must circumvent the INVITE ILLUMINATI. ban B4N

FatherBrandonI am curious, has any scouts tried off-classing to Engineer on RED to try to temporarily cut off a flank? If so, what sort of results did it yield?

I haven't seen anyone play engineer anywhere after first. I think generally after the sentry/tele goes down people don't want to risk the time to build another one.

Even if it were safe to build again, I don't see it working, especially with the rescue ranger banned. Assuming you're talking about trying to cover the 1st-last flank I can't find any good sentry spots, and there are so many corners on this part of the map it would be very easy to spam. Sentry is great on last in 5cp where engi can chill in spawn and defenders get an extra half player, but on this map engi would have to be outside of spawn in order to be effective, and that's just an easy target.

Alright, unfortunately there wasn't a lot of feedback on this map last week despite all the people I met who hated it so I'm making a late post based on the single real game I got. I also decided it'd be easier to make a shitty video instead of trying to screenshot the specific things I think are problems.

RipTideExactly. People easily quit this game. I remember during the global whitelist meeting where saam(or someone idk i dont remember too clearly) said that the initial whitelist change "nearly killed his team". Seriously? You were going to quit this game because of the unbanning of a weapon? Do you even like this fucking game? If you're going to quit TF2 because of the temporary inconvenience from a few changes that helps the development of the game in the long run, I genuinely don't think you like this game enough. You might like it enough to play it, but you don't love it enough to care about its future. Quite like the difference between liking and loving a person.

is this supposed to be an attack on people who... don't like the game enough? lmao

im dumb enough to take this seriously so
Growing as a community involves appealing to as many people as possible. That's just an immutable fact. Maybe you have some restrictions on what kind of people you're trying to appeal to, but in general you need to keep everything as open as possible in order to grow. This definitely includes people who just kinda like the game as opposed to those who blindly adore it and will keep playing no matter how much it's fucked with. There's nothing wrong with deciding that a small change is enough to keep you from enjoying the game anymore. I personally agree that it's an overreaction to quit over small changes (it's not like the GRU were unbanned or anything) but deriding people over what they find enjoyable is pretty ridiculous.

Also I think that it's kinda short sighted. Anyone who's played this game for even 6 months has been around long enough to feel the burn of Valve's development hell. A weapon unban could easily be the tipping point after years of abuse for people.

#31 Rate Current Map Pool in TF2 General Discussion

Process
Snakewater
Product
Gullywash
Badlands
Sunshine
Metalworks
Granary

Honestly, though, I don't really hate any of these maps. I think Granary is the weakest and any new maps that we want to play should take its slot, but I still like playing it.
