#12 I'm figuring out where to live next; suggestions? in Off Topic

Seattle

-Almost never gets above 80 (it is frequently cloudy if that bothers you though)
-Huge EDM scene with nightclubs downtown
-Green everywhere and tons of nice parks. Hikes & mountains are a short drive away.
-Bus system will take you anywhere & building a brand new light rail system (traffic can be bad during rush hour though)
-See point 2
-Gigabit internet or FiOS most (but not all places, you'd want to check specific neighborhoods)

One of the only real downsides is that depending on the neighborhood it can be frickin expensive, most sane people live in suburbs just outside the city proper, which are just as nice.

#2 Monitor doesn't recognize new build, dead mobo/GPU in Hardware

Reseat your GPU and/or change PCI-Express slots (if you have multiple on your motherboard). Reseat the power cable going to your GPU (or try a different one if you have multiple 12V rails on your PSU). That's about all you can do.

Wait, your ducky shine is falling apart after a YEAR of use? I thought those were supposed to be good keyboards.

#7 Valve and HTC create a VR headset in Off Topic
brownymasterCouple the headset with a pair of Steam VR base stations to track your physical location (in spaces up to 15 feet by 15 feet) – get up and walk around inisde the virtual world!

Ok, so I went to a talk by one of the Oculus engineers last week and he made it abundantly clear how friggin dangerous walking around in VR is. Without visual feedback, if you trip over something and fall you will almost certainly break something (since you have no idea where your body is oriented in space relative to the floor).

I assume this unit will come with a giant sticker on the front waiving Valve from liability for any injuries your dumb ass incurs, but I wonder how the press will react the first time somebody seriously gets injured by this.

#404 PC Build Thread in Hardware
SeeRealI built my about 2 years ago with i5-3570k and gtx660ti. Now I am thinking of upgrading my graphics card and apparently gtx 780 is really good with my current cpu. Is this a good idea or is there a better option? I don't mind amd cards since my motherboard is basically made for amd

The 780 is yesterday's news. The 970 is its cheaper, less power-hungry, but otherwise equally-matched replacement.

If you see white and gold, cover up the right side of the image with your arm and it changes color (rather your eyes adjust to the exposure)

The moral of the story is, don't use a password you care about on ESEA.

#4 GPU idle temp in Hardware

As long as your load temps are fine, you shouldn't worry about warm idle temps.
