#36 TF2 ProMod in TF2 General Discussion

I just built a brand new PC - that doesn't mean the game doesn't run like shit still. We used to be able to play on 32 man severs with 300 fps without a config.

This is literally impossible today. You could build a giant super computer and still couldn't do it because the server can't handle the game as is.

#31 TF2 ProMod in TF2 General Discussion

You know, if what they say about increased frames (this game used to run much better) is true... I'll have to try it out. But thanks for looking! I remember when this game ran relatively well lol. It's also interesting that one needs to create a mod to insulate everything from patches lol.

They're also handy for the pocket building uber on them because it's a nice easy wall to shoot while the med hides in spawn.

#11 Ashy skin in Off Topic

Yeah I can understand wanting a hot shower in the morning, what I've gone to doing is using my typically hot water - but keeping my head and face out of the way - and then turn it to 0 heat for my head and face. I'm also on well water, so heating that stuff up causes lot of water soluble material to make it through the filter and can produce some unpleasantness (calcium that builds up in my hair, rust that can stain your hair red, black carbon that turns the water black, etc). So the cold water stops that stuff from dissolving into the water, and gives me a nice solid shock first thing in the morning that I find produces a slightly euphoric feeling and prevents my skin from getting upset.

#5 Ashy skin in Off Topic

I just use vaseline's face cream mainly because it's odorless and the bottle thingy it comes in was huge. But everybody's skin is different so I hear, so maybe there would be something better for you. I also opt for Rikachu's method of doing it pre-bed. Sometimes after work if I spent a lot of time outside. Another thing that really helped me was turning town the temperature of the ol' morning shower. Dousing myself with super hot water was murdering my skin cells wholesale.

welp, it looks like we're back to being mad at the players here in Indiana - makes me feel like a kid again.

#30 Most drops ever seen in a match/scrim/pug? in TF2 General Discussion

lol yup, when I started playing the first thing you were taught as a medic was that healing scouts was bad. And then the whole world changed forever.

I've got some shitty logs for people who nobody would even remember at this point, so I'll try and find one of myself dropping a shitton - because I tended to like to drop.

https://play.esea.net/match/2715631 Here is a good game where both meds drop 3 (I only had 3 ubers in total so I dropped 1/2 of them) times :D This was also the match where my power went out, and my team chose to lose 2 rounds before pausing to call in a sub. Our sub also dropped an uber lol. For a total of 7 dropped ubers in a single match all told for all the meds.

#23 Most drops ever seen in a match/scrim/pug? in TF2 General Discussion

I mean, if you can't handle people talking shit about you, you're too weak to ever be a winner anyways. That includes *outside* of tf2. In the professional world, at least 40% of what I hear is people talkin' shit. If you shut down because of it you're doomed. It's a good life skill that everybody should seek to acquire to just ignore it or let it motivate you.

It used to be the norm for medics to get cut due to dropping too much - both of these things happened to Blackeymonster (who dropped 3-4 ubers to snipers and various stuff) and Nosferatuman who was "headshot out of invite" that's literally what the write up said (on warmfront). Blackeymonster came back a few times - and Nos ended up having a very long stay in invite with other teams (mainly NNN/meat market precursors). There's also the Gulllywash game where Shrew, then a promising IM medic who had been picked up by mix^, dropped 3 ubers in a single game, got cut, and never was heard from again. (It also resulted in Relic getting cut, and Lansky and KBK getting poached off of Pinballwizards)

#7 metal detecting - found stuff in Off Topic

Yup you would be amazed out how much crap ends up in the ground lol. The strangest thing I ever found was when I tried to put in a garden on this property which had only been built up since the 1930s (had been farm land before that), and I found *all* of the original carpeting for the house had simply been buried in a very large hole lol. It was brown and orange shag carpet - not particularly tasteful.

If your property is *really* old there's likely to be a bottle dump somewhere (as people tended not to throw away glass bottles, but keep them outside somewhere should they be needed later).

A local metal detector guy out here found various bits of our interurban electric trolleys (gone since the 1930s) by walking their old track lines. Apparently when they needed to make a fix to the machine they would just toss all the old bits to the side of the line and leave them. There was also a civil war camp near here (Camp Pettit) and it's super easy to find minie balls as well as round shot, embedded in the bluff. There was also an amusement park (first rollercoaster in Indiana, and one of the first "loop de' loops" in the world) that operated here from ~1899-1908 and that whole area is just farm land now and it makes for good metal detecting too - you pry have similar sites nearby if you're feeling adventurous.

Bojan Bogdanovic is shooting 62% from 3 over the last 4 games.. So that's been interesting to see.

#18 Bought new pc and it won't run tf2 on highest in Q/A Help

Correct I just saw the dx8 and quit paying attention because I didn't know "high" and dx8 were things that exist together in this timeline lol.

I'm on a ryzen 5 and a 1060 with no OC and get around ~320 that only dips badly on full pubs. Running on dx9 because I like shiny ubers. My guess is there is something up with the ram, or a driver issue somewhere down the line.

#5 ESEA S26 W9: Ascent vs. SVIFT NA in Matches

*I* had fun - I've been wanting to solo cast for a long time, so when the opportunity presented itself I took it lol took me back to the olden days lol. WP to both teams, an interesting exploration of sunshine.

#7 Save our Net Neutrality in World Events

Also Reagan was in the 20th century because 0-100 was the 1st century. Just so it doesn't sound like he's in the 1800s, although that is when most railroad construction occurred. But yes, net neutrality is good.

#46 What got you in to competitive TF2? in TF2 General Discussion

I was part of the SourceOP 24/7 goldrush community - we even had our own 16v16 goldrush league where all of the different clans that were present on the server throughout the day would take on each other on a private server.

We also regularly feuded with the SourceOP Rotation #1 and #2 servers and most of those guys were already in comp. When ETF2l held its first tournament for medals we all made teams, and CommFT had their bracketed tournament shortly thereafter me and 5 buddies decided to make a sixes team. Also this video really helped: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENruOrM01CQ

Or community is also the reason that the halo hat exists, as the guy who ran SourceOP made a program that would allow you to obtain hat drops even while not logged into tf2 - they took away all our illbegotten hats though and imposed a weekly drop limit :( He also figured out the golden wrench algorithm and obtained one, then had it taken from him, and his account banned, and then he was offered a job by Valve - where he currently works lol.

One of our friends also won some thing to get mentored by Vhalin when he was on ^6, and ended up being a medic ringer for spacewhales and got to play like once lol.

Players brought to you by sourceOP both in Highlander and 6s, that somebody may know, in order of me remembering them:

Me, Hugh Laurie, Collide, Sizzling Calamari (of Sizzlingstats fame), Yum, Wombraider, Ibby, Zalfy, cusideabelincoln, Sdogg2m, Novamode, Goomba/Kittiesoink, and most of the early -=KA=- and DesA players in highlander.
