#9 Choosing a Main Class - Beginner Help in Q/A Help

I do realize that it is better to play all classes and I certainly agree with it. If I had a lot of time to play TF2, I'd play all of the classes. However, I have to put other things such as school and work before TF2 so I need to allocate my time efficiently. (Something like spending 50% of my time playing this class, and then spending the other 50% playing everything else.)

Regardless, thank you to everyone that replied. I appreciate the help.

#1 Choosing a Main Class - Beginner Help in Q/A Help

Hello,

I am writing this forum thread to ask for some advice and tips in order to help me pick a main class for 6v6 - not necessarily what I'm best at right now, but rather something that is most suitable for me and gives me the most room/potential for improvement. The reason I want to pick a main class right now is so that I can focus on improving as that class, while occasionally playing on pubs as other classes.

I would like to get into competitive TF2 next year. I am currently busy, so I'll wait until next year to start when I have a lot more free time. As of right now, I am going to focus on practicing (MGE and such) during my (limited) free time. Up until now, most of my time spent on TF2 is on pub servers.

The three roles I am considering right now are roamer, pocket, and scout. I like roamer the most, but I doubt my abilities and I feel like I am more likely to hit a wall early on in terms of improvement. This goes especially true for rocket jumping, because I feel like my potential is limited when it comes to getting better at jumps. My second option is to be a pocket soldier, but I am not sure I am able to handle the responsibilities of the pocket such as leading pushes and protecting the medic. Lastly, I am considering scout. I am not very good at scout right now, but I think I can definitely work on it. The hardest part for me right now is aiming well with a hitscan weapon, dodging, trying to avoid being overly aggressive (bad habits from playing a lot of soldier), and staying alive. Those can certainly be worked on, but I'm still not sure if scout is the best choice.

Soldier is definitely my favorite class (in general, and to watch), but I am somewhat leaning toward scout when it comes to what I feel is the best or most suitable for me.

I am still not completely sure and I would really appreciate some opinions.

Thank you in advance.
