Up until the last few rounds, it will be whenever you can. The final 8 (or maybe 16) teams will play in an event held at some point in time after esea lan.

mgibKevinIsPwnMap: Balloo,
am I the only one who thinks balloo isn't a good map? It's like playing gullywash mid in MGE.

I'm sure you're not, but it's pretty much the standard right now. If both teams want a different map, go for it.

fightif you're going to provide servers for the event, do you plan on providing servers for people to practice on?

If you need it, I'll work something out.

e: This was vague, sorry. There will be info about server stuff within a few days :)

AlannyWell I played and paid, but not a full season does that count?

Yeah sure. The ESEA/ CEVO thing is really just to keep a bunch of terrible entries or alts or whatever. Honestly, doesn't really have to be this past season either.

manaYou gonna get this casted, Kevin?

Depends on how big it is/ if people are willing. So I'll leave it at a strong "maybe" for now.

To sign up, respond to this thread with steam and league urls to your page and your teammates page.

If you have questions or suggestions, post them in this thread.

update one (nov 16)

  • Changed format from single elim to double elim
  • Added specific whitelist
  • Added info on how the brackets will be laid out
  • Added banner to forum post
  • Added team counter

update two (nov 17)

  • For now, keep up with the updates I post on this thread. There will be a better way of communicating with the players soon, but until then it's nice to have an easy way of sending out info to everyone.
  • When we get all 64 teams up, every player who's page is linked on this thread will be invited to a private steam group. It is required to join this steam group.
  • I will post a specific date soon but please know that with a week, rosters will lock. Teams can have up to one backup, and that backup will have to be listed on this thread before rosters lock. If you edit your forum post after the roster lock you will get no backups.
  • I will be as lenient as possible throughout this tournament. A few rounds in, I will start being a lot more relaxed with dates and communication issues, but to start please keep in mind I'll be working with 128+ people in the tourney and numerous volunteers. There's only so much bending I can do to accommodate people before the workload gets too big. If I ever come off as being rude to you when communicating about this event, please know that is never my intent. I've had 10+ chat windows open at any given time since a few hours after this post, so I'm trying to be concise as possible. :)
  • Speaking of volunteers, I'm looking for a few admins. Requirements: be at least sort of almost known in the community (no randoms, sorry i don't have time to screen everyone), leadership experience appreciated, and lots of free time required. If you want to admin, please PM me on tftv. Don't add me or anything, just pm me on tftv. Use this form: http://pastebin.com/6AsTGRQG
  • Lastly, I have a few people willing to put in money to the tournament. If you're also interested in sponsoring the tournament, please get in contact with me however you can. Keep in mind any keys, money, or other prizes donated to the event stack on to what's already there, so donate what you can if you're able.

update three (nov 19)

  • added sponsor info (based tradetf)
  • updated prizepot
  • mentioned tradetf incentive
  • banner credit to xattuu

update four (nov 21)

#39 The current state of newbie mixes in TF2 General Discussion

When I'm coaching, I like to have a mix of skills in the game. Otherwise, the games are pretty much always a 5-0 for one team or the other. It's really hard to coach 6 completely new players without making it kinda unfun. I find it hard to allow aggressive play because of how out of hand it can get with multiple people overextending and stuff. With some UGC people thrown into the mix, you get a group of people that can do their own thing, so you can really focus on teaching the newbies how to do stuff during the fights. Then, at the end of fights you critique the UGC player's playstyle. Also, in groups with just noobies, the punishment for major mistakes just isn't there. With mixed groups, the noobies get the basic, the ugc players get more complex advice, the game is less chaotic, the UGC players get good at shutting down people playing overly-aggressive, the noobs learn the over-aggression has consequences, and I don't get an aneurysm. Everybody wins!

I also like coaching while playing for a sort of similar reason. Not only can I balance the teams by handicapping myself/ tryharding, I can also focus on what the other people are doing without having to work with whoever would otherwise be on the class I'm playing. It's much easier to coach 5 people than it is to coach 6 people.

Edit: Also the more IM/ Invite players that coach, the better. Give it a shot!

#10 bad fps? really good computer in Q/A Help
ukmmin 140fps is not awful

why u even wanna expend time or energy on this u aint have a problem to solve here man

140 fps= stuttering on a 144hz monitor.

OP, I just play in 720p. I get 150+ on midfights while streaming on my Phenom II cpu. You don't even notice after a little while. Is this a problem only with TF2 or do other programs mess up?

#8 Lenovo y50? in Hardware

I got my sister this Y50 for as her college/ gaming/ etc machine. It was working great for a while, but the battery life is pretty terrible now, despite being only a few months old. The trackpad is also pretty finicky and straight-up doesn't work sometimes. When I see her over Thanksgiving break, I can tell you whether it's the machine or something she's doing if you'd like.

#16 Arena:Respawn PUG in Events
defyKevinIsPwnOkay I thought this would be really stupid, but it's not bad to watch, honestly. Fun stuff!
way to be open minded !

In fairness, arena has always been the opposite of competitive. I don't think of myself as an elitist or whatever. I like highlander fairly decently, I gave 4v4 a try, I started playing competitive in a 3v3 tournament even. It's just the arena has always been such a pub-y thing that it's in a different realm of tf2 in my head.

I see "arena competitive" and it just doesn't make sense, but like I said: it's actually pretty cool
