#6 sports injuries in Off Topic

Got blocked in the back during a junior varsity football game my sophomore year; broke the scaphoid in my right wrist. My high pain tolerance led to my believing it to be minor; I played the remaining three+ quarters of that game. Afterwards we got it x-rayed. They put a cast on it for six weeks, took that off and performed more x-rays, put a cast on for a further six weeks, and only then realized that it was not healing. Had to have surgery, which went well.

Hyper-extended my right knee during my senior year; played through it and was fine.

#1 Signature Maps in TF2 General Discussion

I realized earlier today that I couldn't recall the last time Froyotech lost an official match on Process. I went back and looked; best I can tell, Froyo's most recent defeat on the map was in the first bo3 in the season 22 grand final vs Ronin (I think it was Ronin; maybe they were EVL by then). This was about a year-and-a-half ago. This got me thinking; what were the sickest runs teams have had on specific maps in the history of TF2? Can be by length of dominance, degree of dominance, or both.

If people want to throw in maps which particular players are remarkably good at, throw those in too.

Should add an option; "I play with viewmodels off."

#31 Stalin, the greatest Russian leader of all time? in Off Topic

I'm going to keep out of this; I'm about two-fifths of the way through The Gulag Archipelago and am not sure I'd be able to evaluate Stalin impartially.

It does bear pointing out that there is a difference between the words 'great' and 'good', though the two are often used in conjunction. Greatness has to do with magnitude; it is quite possible to be great without being good (indeed, being quite the opposite) and it is likewise possible to be good, but not great.

MysclickFroyo goes through pockets like Hogwarts goes through Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers, seriously.

Yomps is switching positions to be pocket, is he Snape?

I have this picture in my head of Hans Gruber sitting at his computer, playing TF2 and comming. Thanks.

#108 December Global Whitelist Changes in TF2 General Discussion
SolarLight The weapon does not need to be fully deployed, similarly to how the Winger works.

I wonder how worthwhile it would be for Scouts to have a bind to switch to melee, jump, then switch to previous weapon immediately...Scout would still have to deal with the time devoted to unholster and holster the Atomizer. The thing has an extra 50% deploy time. Would this be a viable maneuver or would it just be better for the Scout to come back to Earth and keep shooting/reloading?

#103 December Global Whitelist Changes in TF2 General Discussion

Minor query; does the Atomizer have to be fully out in order to do the third jump or can one perform the third jump immediately upon switching to it? I'm away from my PC, so I can't hop on and test this.

#48 What did you get for Christmas? in Off Topic

My cousin (who welds and has a plasma cutter) made me a Seahawks logo out of steel; that'll go on a wall somewhere.

My brother bought me a metal image of the Paragon symbol from Mass Effect.

My mother got me a ceramic R2-D2 piggy bank and a sheet of 20 Ingrid Bergman stamps.

#50 What do you LOVE about tf2? in TF2 General Discussion

I've played the game for 1300 hours according to Steam. I greatly enjoy the learning. Any time I play, I am pretty much guaranteed to learn new things, or at least consider strats/situations/options which I hadn't before. I am of the impression that this will be the same after 3000 hours, after 5000 hours, after 10000 hours, and so on.

The game has solid core mechanics; most of the times I die, it's my fault. Maybe I could have dodged better; maybe I committed too far without being aware of where my team was or where the enemy was; maybe I made a poor weapon choice. Sure, there are many silly and cheap gimmicks in this game, but at the center is a great game.

Finally, TF2 has something that is difficult to articulate. The game has a way of making people love it. There is such a dedicated community surrounding it; why? I don't know what it is (I probably haven't played enough to come to the truth of the matter), but after more than ten years, here is TF2, fighting the good fight.

#11 It's Friday... in Off Topic

I'll go to see The Last Jedi tonight.
Get up at 6 AM tomorrow; exercise; then stream for a few hours. Lunch. Read. Stream some more. Take my computer to the school at which I teach, then go pick up some pizzas. At the end of every semester I hold a movie/pizza/video game/board game party for 8-10 of my highest performing math students. Movie will be The Gods Must be Crazy II; video game will be Octodad. Pack up at 9 or so; return home and to bed.
Same start of Sunday; Mass at 8:30 AM. Read afterwards. Might play some video games, not sure.

#20 What do you HATE about TF2? in TF2 General Discussion

I can't really say there's anything I hate about TF2. The lack of dev/Valve support grinds my gears, but that's on those entities, not the game itself.

I'm just sad I wasn't around when this game came out. There are so many neat stories and personalities I've missed out on just based on when I discovered this game.
