#1 pl_badwater_pro in Map Discussion

Hello! I've been working for the past month or so on a competitive/pro version of pl_badwater, and I finally feel confident enough in my changes that I'm putting it up here for general testing.

Now, I'm not saying that I'm a better mapmaker than those at Valve - and I'm definitely not changing it to the extent of barnblitz_pro - but I've made a few changes that I think should make it a bit more fun to play. You can find a full changelog here: http://pastebin.com/MbDnU2FW. I've also put together a collection of screenshots, which you can find here: https://imgur.com/gallery/n2ZBk/.

If you've got any feedback, questions, or further suggestions, please let me know! If you think it's worth your time to scrim or stream a scrim, lobby, or pug on pl_badwater_pro3 (the current version), I'd absolutely love it if you could send me/post a download or viewing link. More feedback and testing can only help me improve the final version. Right now, this is more of an alpha version than a release candidate, so it might not be the prettiest of revisions. Once I'm sure the gameplay is good, though, I'll make sure to bring the aesthetics up to par with the rest of the map.

That's about all for now! You can find the download link here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1743kf4raxdfv8l/pl_badwater_pro_3.bsp?dl=0.

Version a8 is here! I did a shitload of optimization, modified third a bit to make it easier to hold, and prettied up the outside of the map a little bit. All feedback is, as always, appreciated. Here's hoping we can go beta after this version.

Woodbridge a7 is here, and it has textures! R.I.P. pl_orange; long live pl_woodbridge_a7! I also made a few bugfixes, added a new skybox, and changed some stuff around. You can find the full changelog below.

Let me know what you think! Here's hoping it's a little more playable now that it's not full of dev textures.

a6 is out! I nerfed a few RED-favoring flanks and generally cleaned up some props and surfaces. Cheers to everyone who playtested a5 and gave me invaluable feedback. Let me know what you think!

ammo888This map looks really good! Although I do agree that it is pretty long - comparable to frontier.
I think it would be easier for people to find the changes you made if you type all your changes into a pastebin or something, and link it on your original post - that way the most recent update is shown.

I'm glad you like it! As for the time, I actually timed how long it would take a 100% speed class to walk along the full Payload track. In total, the time was 45 seconds on Woodbridge, with the longest point being third, at 13.5 seconds. I compared it to Upward, which has a total of 45 seconds as well, with the longest point also being third - at 15 seconds. If you remove both thirds, though, assuming them to be outliers, Upward takes 31 seconds to walk through, while Woodbridge takes 32. So, on the whole, it's not a long map - just stretched out, instead of being coiled in on itself like Badwater or Upward.

In any case, I'll definitely use that pastebin idea in the future. Truth be told, I'm also getting tired of cluttering up posts with changelogs. Here's to hoping that it'll keep things a mite cleaner.

Woodbridge ver. a5 is here! I spent a lot of time fixing up A and redoing the right-side flanks into last. Here's hoping that the map is a little smaller, and that the flow is a little more sensible.

pl_woodbridge_a4 is here! I was up until 3 AM last night making all of these changes. I hope this version's up to par! Special thanks to the folks at TF2Maps, TFTV, and the UGC Platinum maptesting group for giving me extremely valuable feedback. As always, suggestions, compliments, and criticisms are always welcome, and feel free to let me know if you'd like to give the map a go for a test :)

In other news, I've now got a Steam group! If you're interested in this or any future maps I might make, feel free to join up for announcements, downloads, and discussions! http://steamcommunity.com/groups/aeromapplaytesters

Hergan5GVAeroHergan5This looks pretty good, I always wanted to make a PL map, but always got demotivated when started Hammer, anyway, it's really looks greatGlad to hear it! And don't get demotivated! Hammer's not that hard to pick up, and there are tons of tutorials on YT that you can use. I actually just picked it up myself like a month or so ago. If you want to give it a go, try it out!
I actually know how to use it, but I never get any ideas to be honest :P

I always get my best ideas by just sketching in a notebook before bed. Everyone's got their creative method somewhere.

redrocket4That looks really good

Thank you! I'm glad you like it.

rowrowFor having 4 capture points, it seems pointlessly long for every segment between points. I personally think the idea of having multiple stages of defense opportunities is not a bad thing, but you have to consider this could potentially be 20+ minutes to push all the way to last if Red gets enough opportunities to fortify their defense

You might be right. I'll wait and see what other people think in the meantime. Thank you for your feedback!

Hello everyone! This is a Payload map that I'm currently working on. The current version is pl_woodbridge_a3, thanks to the help of a few friends in giving me feedback. I'm hoping to get more (and possibly better) feedback by posting it around. My endgame is to make this map balanced for competitive Highlander play - I don't know if you're looking at the next Swiftwater or Borneo, but I'd certainly love to one day see Woodbridge in a regular Highlander map rotation.

Any suggestions, compliments, or criticisms are more than welcome. If you'd like to playtest the map, feel free to let me know so that I can poke you for an STV later (or play on it, if you're pugging).

You can add me at https://steamcommunity.com/id/DemoAero. Cheers, and thank you for your time!
