#95 Serpents qualifies for DreamHack Summer in News

You have to offer actual incentives for people to play (making it fun) rather than trying to pressure people in to playing 'for the good of the competitive scene' or its pretty much pointless and unsustainable. Look at how you can improve the tournaments to make it more attractive for teams instead of trying to argue with people who have a different opinion about it and don't get the same things out of playing cups. Look at timings, look at the format and see if changes will increase sign ups.

Personally I wouldn't mind playing, I even asked one of my teammates if he wanted to have a go at cup#3 the other week but at the same time I'm not super keen either and I'm not going to go out of my way to make a mix team because it doesn't seem that great for an open team to play in.

#71 Serpents qualifies for DreamHack Summer in News

These top players are so disconnected from people actually playing in open. There is no fun in playing vs a high team when you're at open level. What is fun is playing against people at a similar skill level or slightly better so you have a close game and a chance at winning, rather than getting 5-0'd straight away every time. Its not about worrying about losing, its the fact that getting stomped is no fun at all and isn't worth your time just because some people are complaining about not enough sign ups.

If you want open people to sign up host a cup for open/mid players so its actually fun and beneficial.

#9 Serpents qualifies for DreamHack Summer in News

Obviously it would be a lot better if Serpents and Suave turned up but it wont be the end of the world if they don't, I'm guessing Lego, Publiclir and possibly some other teams would be willing to go in their place.

#26 Dreamhack Summer Qualifier 4 Playoffs in Events

Serpents came 5th place in season 22, behind Lego, then they come back and win agains all these teams. Its not exactly the same as Suave, a team full of people who won prem, coming back.

zeFrostyWhy is it a vote to get in? Surely a battle to the death would be more approriate!

I agree. Playoffs like we have in ETF2L are a lot fairer than a vote.

#40 Reckoner replaces Sunshine in ETF2L S24 map pool in TF2 General Discussion

I think that the map pool should be extended in general. It shouldn't be arguing maps v maps, it should be 'is this map good? Yes then we will play it at some point.'

You can have too many maps at once obviously because it's hard for teams to practice that many but I think it would be good to change the map pool every season by one or two maps and also include more maps in different cups.

#22 How can we bring more people into TF2? in TF2 General Discussion
eeeSpe0Make it a good spectator sport. Let's not kid ourselves here, comp tf2 is not as fun to watch as something like cs, smite or even hearthstone.Good is a bad word. Easy is much better. TF2 is fucking hard to watch for me, and I can actually play TF2 at a level 99.99% of the tf2 population can't (pls no shittalk). Until the game can be broadcast in a way that's more clear and concise, it'll always be hard to watch. CS and MOBAs have the leg up here because they're primarily 2 dimensional and very focused/predictable. Combine this with how easy it is to program the predictive camera for CS compared to TF2, and you end up with much easier to spectate games. Simple round structures, relatively few objectives, very clear cut measurements for success. CS has these and as a result is very simple to spectate. TF2 isn't impossible to cast, but it requires a very good group of people to do so, and even then its more of a players' cast than a viewers' one. The people who're actually watching and understanding probably play TF2.

I have to disagree with that. I started watched competitive way before I started playing it, back when I was a pub player with about 200 hours and found that I could understand it absolutely fine. I watched the i49 fragumentary and thought it was amazing and went on to watch i52 and i55 live as well as all the ETF2L prem games which got me into actually playing myself.

I think the way to increase viewership is just more big events. I'm sure i58 will get good numbers for tf2 but I think if we had even bigger international LANs with massive prize pools then a lot more people would watch and also be inspired to play competitive themselves. I think that the production quality is pretty good and the casters don't usually miss much.

#55 invite players ever been recognized irl? in TF2 General Discussion

The other week I was in Sideshow's twitch stream chat and someone mentioned a city near where I live. I started talking to 2 other people and it turns out David The Win went to the college I'm at now but left a few years ago.

I added the other guy who also went to my college and I found out he's in my Maths class, I've just never spoken to him much before and he plays mid ETF2L. So weird that we were in the chat at the same time and he just happened to mention where we live.
