#31 Is it possible/worth it to upgrade my PC? in Hardware

So right now I'm just looking for a graphics card, and I'll worry about the rest of the upgrading after I have this part. I've been looking for what Setsul recommended which was a used graphics card for $50-100. I asked elsewhere and got recommended to buy a gtx 750 TI, although I'm having some trouble finding that one for under $100, especially when I consider shipping.

Is that card going to be enough to boost my fps? (keep in mind I'm probably still going to upgrade my CPU after I buy this) Is it going to be overkill for TF2? Is there a better card I should buy instead? Also is there any compatibility issues I should be worried about when buying gpu's? I don't want to buy a part only to realize it doesn't work with my PC once it gets here.

#180 sigafoo's Challenge Cup in TF2 General Discussion

I gotta say Sigafoo, this is really, really disappointing.

When this was first announced I was genuinely excited and hopeful, because while I disagreed with how you were doing things, I liked the concept. I thought the only problem with how you were running things was that you had too many variables. A tournament where we play normal 6s but scout is limited to one is a great way to see if scout limit one is a positive or negative change. A tournament full of koth and payload maps is a great way to see if playing more koth and payload maps is a positive or negative change. A tournament where we play normal 6s, but with a pick/ban weapon system is a great way to see if that kind of a system is a positive or negative change. (Personally I don't think any of those changes would be a positive change, but that's irrelevant to my point)

Putting all three together makes the results less impactful, because it's difficult to see which changes were good and which were bad, but I was still hopeful because there still could be some information gained, and you said that things could still be changed. I had hoped that from community feedback, and common sense, you would reduce the variables, or change the tournament in a way that would allow us to better analyze which changes were be good and which were be bad.

Holly shit though you just went in the complete opposite direction. At this point your format is so far away from traditional 6s, no valuable information will be gained, and this tournament will prove nothing to the community. I suppose it's your money, and you're under no obligation to make this tournament something that will provide quality data, and improve the game, but god damn am I sad because that's what I thought you were trying to do when I first heard about the tournament.

Unfortunately the match that was supposed to go live tonight, will not be casted due to us not having anyone around to do production (aside from drshdwpuppet who will be busy covering the invite match tonight) If you're interested at all in doing camera for TF.TV this season, please contact either myself or Mr. Slin :)

#19 Is it possible/worth it to upgrade my PC? in Hardware

Alright, so after some testing here's what I found.

- My fps doesn't change a whole lot weather I'm playing on low or high settings. I get probably 5-10 more fps on average when I'm playing with everything turned down.

- My CPU usage from my task manager generally sits around 30%, so I don't think my CPU is the problem.

-My GPU usages from gpuz fluctuates a lot in game, but after playing for a few minutes my average was 71%, although I saw it a lot up in the 80s and 90, and my max hit was 99%...

So basically my GPU is the problem. As for upgrading, I'm willing to spend a few hundred dollars. I don't need the best card in the world, but if I could stay above 120fps, on low settings, without using a graphics config, that would be ideal. (I'm not absolutely against using a config if what I'm looking for isn't realistic, I would just rather not have to use one)

Really just looking for options at this point, so all suggestions are appreciated :)

#24 sigafoo's Challenge Cup in TF2 General Discussion

I don't like the ban system in this. This season we already made a huge progressive jump forward with an extremely loose global whitelist, and that was already very controversial. The one scout idea, and having more koth/pl maps is something that might be interesting, but throwing too many variable into an experiment is a good way to not get any good data out of it.

eg: "This game was aids, but was it aids because we had to play it on a payload map, or was it only aids becasue we had to play against the wrangler?"

If you want to do a tournament to test out different ideas, don't do all of them at once. The community has already made big steps in having fewer banned weapons in the game, there's no reason to bring that even farther in this tournament when you're already changing so much.

#14 Is it possible/worth it to upgrade my PC? in Hardware

Ok, it took a while but I finally got a day to go to the city and get some thermal paste. I put on new thermal paste, and cleaned it out with canned air, and now my GPU is staying under 80C, and my frames sit between 50-70 while playing.

An improvement on the temps for sure, but I'm looking for more fps than that. Would my best bet be to buy a new graphics card then? The rx 480 or gtx 1060 were recommended a little while ago, but are there any others I should look at?

#254 Global whitelist unveiled in News
greenrab1 scout, 5v5 might speed the game up. who knows.

After like, nine years we finally got Valve to embrace 6v6. Now is not the time to switch formats.

#135 Global whitelist unveiled in News

I think it's important as we go forward with TF2 that we loosen up the whitelist, and set a standard for all regions. This new whitelist is pretty crazy though, I never expected to see stuff like Atomizer, Natascha, Rescue Ranger and Jarate unbanned without getting nerfed first.

I like these unexpected unbans though. A questionable whitelist is not what's going to kill TF2, refusing change might.

#9 Is it possible/worth it to upgrade my PC? in Hardware

Do you think it would be worth it for me to just buy a new GPU cooler? If so are there any that are compatible with my 6570 that you could recommend? At the moment I float around 55-60 fps while just playing TF2, and it drops to as low as 40 when there's lots of stuff on the screen. The game also crashes if I play it for a long time without breaks, and I think this may be because of my GPU overheating.

DrummerGuy I don't know how you continue to put up with /r/tf2's bullshit, but you're the hero that sub needs.
