#21 koth_bagel in Map Discussion

This map looks great so far, I really like the layout, especially around the point. A lot of options for places to jump around and spam from, I imagine midfights could be really spectacular. I love koth and it would be really cool to see more than just product played, so I'm really excited to see where you take this map.

Two thoughts-
There doesn't seem to be much ammo around the point. Spamming could get really tricky between two soldiers and a demo.
The underground area beneath the point feels almost like an afterthought. I have no idea how it will play out in games, but it doesn't feel like as useful a route as it could be, somehow. Idk. I'd really love to play this map and I hope I get a chance to try it out soon :)

Great job so far. Good luck!

#27 What do you all want out of the Pyro update? in TF2 General Discussion
Bleghfuricactually good weapon balancing

oh wait they're only balancing the pyro this update

I doubt that's true. Some other changes to broken weapons I'd like to see: (obviously there are more weapons that need to have huge changes in order to be acceptable in competitive play)

  • Darwin's danger shield bullet resistance only applies on non-critical hits
  • Pomson no longer has any ubercharge drain effect
  • Sandman takes away even more health, and stuns its targets for much shorter amounts of time
  • Atomizer should gain some sort of passive effect- currently, the -10 health on third jump is laughably irrelevant, as you can use it to avoid 100 damage rockets easily. Instead, maybe with the atomizer equipped (not just active), the scout can no longer receive any overheal? idk. Something is needed.
  • The vita-saw should have a much larger health penalty. 10 is tiny in exchange for free uber advantage
  • eviction notice / GRU no longer stacks with whip AT ALL. Currently, with whip and GRU, heavies can get to mid as fast as scouts lol

#21 What do you all want out of the Pyro update? in TF2 General Discussion
  • Fix flamethrower "mojo". This will make pyro less frustrating to play as, and play against, as the damage dealing and range will be more consistent, reliable, and predictable. If this is properly fixed (get sigsegv's approval and testing), the flamethrower's range could then be increased slightly to make the class a bit more dangerous (but not deadly) at mid range.
  • Airblast no longer stops player movement, instead, it adds a new momentum (for instance, if a player is running from right to left on your screen and you airblast them, they will continue moving left, while also being pushed back). This will make pyro less frustrating to play against by allowing skillful movement on your part to be used to escape damage.
  • All pyro melees give the powerjack's movement speed increase while deployed. Pyro is a close range dm and general support class, but is too slow to get in range to do damage and transition between areas of the map. This has been one of the major factors holding the class back in 6s and 5cp play. This will also allow the powerjack to be a stylistic choice with (more than current) healing on kill, rather than a must-equip weapon.
  • Add a new primary or secondary weapon that gives pyro the option to play a heavily support-oriented role, while sacrificing some deathmatch capabilities. DO NOT let this be annoying and frustrating to play against- it should not negate skillful play by the enemy team. Very vague but I think there could be some ways to explore this idea.
  • Add a new primary weapon that gives pyro the option to sacrifice close-range DPS in favor of close-mid range DPS that is only reliably achieved with accurate tracking. A lot of people in the competitive community have talked about the idea of a quake-like lightning gun, this is an idea worth exploring.
  • Add a new secondary weapon primarily for casual play, which is fun to use and rewards creativity, but is not frustrating to play against. This is really vague, but just something fun and interesting for people to play around with, without being so strong it greatly affects competitive 6s gameplay.
  • This: A reskin for either the Sandvich or Dalokohs bar. Vintage quality for players who voted Heavy, regular random drop quality for all players from here on out. Just a nice way to acknowledge people who wanted new stuff for heavy. Reddit will love it.
  • Some awesome new pyro/fire themed weapon skins
  • NEW VOICE CODEC. There is a huge amount of latency that makes the current voice communication almost useless in fast-paced competitive play.
  • More optimization

I know we won't get everything we want, but those are just some ideas and things I want. I'd also strongly urge Valve to consult with MULTIPLE high-level competitive players on any new weapons added to the game, as they could potentially have effects on competitive TF2 that are unforeseen by the development team.

#8 My Thoughts on the Comp and Casual being added in TF2 General Discussion

I think casual's reputation suffered from the very rough release, but valve very quickly fixed the most pressing problems. Now, only a few common complaints remain, and valve said in their blog post how they're addressing them. In the state it is now, and will be after its next update, casual is a huge success. They really hit it out of the park. I have a friend who used to play tf2 a little, but almost never does now, and I played with him the other day. His first response to the new casual mode was "wow, they really improved things since I last played!"

Casual is amazing, but I think competitive is still in need of big changes. The config restrictions, unbalanced unlocks, and lack of class limits make the game feel like a competition of "who can out-gimmick the other?" which results in horribly unenjoyable games where you're up against a natascha heavy pocketed with kritz and vaccinator and 3 scouts running around him. And that's when the games are balanced. Because of the lack of distribution of ranks, games usually aren't very balanced in my experience, and far too often it ends in a roll. When you also consider that abandoning ends the match no matter the situation, competitive matchmaking has too many frustrations for it to be consistently fun for me. Which is a shame. Because I can see the potential. Every once in a while, I find myself in a game with decent players who are communicating and not running gimmicks, and the game is even- and it's a blast. I just wish that came around more often. I think with Valve's approach to development recently, we'll probably get there.

Also welcome to tftv :D

#14 Brightly and his friends getting banned in The Dumpster

I've played a few games with and against brightly, and it's simply awful either way. it ruins the experience, and it's not fun. This was absolutely the right decision and the shocking thing is that it took tf2c's moderation team this long to come to it. Their service is now better and more enjoyable than it was 24 hours ago.

#6 Nalyd LFT Scout Low Open in Recruitment (looking for team)

I was on the team that had picked up Nalyd, before our medic bailed and we decided not to play the season together. We tried him out and were impressed, I was really happy we'd found him. He has solid DM that I'm sure he's improving very quickly, and his comms were absolutely fantastic. I always knew what he was doing and why, and he gave a lot of good information beyond that to our maincaller. Our medic loved him because he did a really good job of playing heals and knew when to be ready to kill people who +forwarded at her.

Try him out, I was shocked he was as good as he is with just a season of iron experience. You'll find a dedicated, mature, and talented scout who will improve along with your team as the season goes on.

#7 Where can I find some beginner level pugs? in Q/A Help
DrRoflcopterarmadillohttp://mix.champ.gg/I take that the average player there have little comp experience, right?

The range of skill on mixchamp is pretty wide. Anybody is welcome to play there, but usually almost all of the players there have some comp experience, many of them have a lot. It's a good place to play though- if you tell your teammates that you don't have a lot of experience and you're willing to take their feedback and instructions (and you actually do that) you'll fit right in and have fun.

The newbie 6v6 pugs are another good place, I'm told. Check those out.

I run pugs with my friends on some nights, we're on average steel level skill (smh) so if you'd like to play with us whenever we're pugging, add me :) But it's not as consistent as you seem to want.

You can also just put in time getting better on tf2center, but when I did that it wasn't very fun at first. Up to you. just try all your options and see what you enjoy the most!

#16 Ideas for balance changes to weak unlocks in TF2 General Discussion
DamnEasyMaybe think about changing weapons that actually need changes instead of changing weapons that dont really need changing?

As I said in the first post, fixing the broken unlocks is more important. I see plenty of feedback for those weapons already, I was hoping to see this community's ideas for the other side of the coin- the weapons that are so bad they're never worth using

BrimstoneAm I the only one who feels that this kind of thread keeps popping up and dying while the old threads of the same topic fall into obscurity?

Why is there this need to make a new thread instead of using the older ones, which actually have some good points made.

I've been on TFTV for a while and haven't really seen threads talking about suggestions for buffs / changes to weak and rarely used weapons. If they do exist, bumping long-dead threads is frowned upon anyway. I wanted valve to see this community's suggestions for changes to those weapons, because they've made it clear they read what we say here.

#4 Ideas for balance changes to weak unlocks in TF2 General Discussion
shorasHey, Cow Mangler is pretty bad. Let's make it even worse!

I tried to come up with an example suggestion- I don't think it would be worse, but I could very well be wrong. The point is, what are your ideas? I want people here to suggest stuff. We complain a lot about reddit's buff/nerf ideas, so we should give valve more of our own.

#1 Ideas for balance changes to weak unlocks in TF2 General Discussion

While buffing / reworking the weak and underused weapons in TF2 is less important than nerfing / reworking the most broken and overpowered weapons (such as those not on the ETF2L whitelist), I think it's worthwhile to suggest some changes for those weak weapons. Many of them don't need huge buffs, just some minor changes to make them an interesting alternative to stock.

I'm talking about weapons like the Back Scatter, Liberty Launcher, Cow Mangler, and the Righteous Bison. We can give Valve suggestions on how to change these weapons so that they're not complete garbage, without making them so strong or broken that they have to be banned in league play. Here's an example idea of mine:

Cow Mangler:
- remove hidden slower initial reload speed penalty
- add -15% damage penalty
- remove minicrits from charged shot
- give charged shot a larger (+25% ?) splash radius than normal rockets instead

Reasoning:
The slower initial reload speed makes this weapon very unfun to use. When chaining together rocket jumps, trying to move quickly around the map, and fighting players, you're constantly finding yourself out of ammo when you expected to have reloaded. It's frustrating to use as a result. It's important for the weapon to have some downside in teamfights and spam, though, as not having to pick up ammo is a pretty big deal. The damage penalty is a less frustrating and more standard means of balancing this.

Minicrits on the charged shot are a big problem because of the lack of damage falloff- you can be miles away from a choke, from where you shouldn't be able to deal massive damage, and oneshot players if you happen to hit them. Afterburn and larger splash radius make the charged shot useful and dangerous- but it's still a big risk to use all your clip at once right at the beginning of a teamfight.

What do you guys think? What changes to some weak and rarely used unlocks would you like Valve to make?

#3 mobile version of the site in Site Discussion
Hoodiesearch teamfortress.tv in the app store, first option that pops up is what you want, called TF.TV Viewer I think.

There's also a TF.TV viewer on the Google Play Store in case you're on Android, but it wasn't very stable in my experience so I stopped using it

#3 Windows 10 anniversary update boosts FPS in Customization
bearodactylUnrelated but does windows 10 give better fps than 7 or 8? I haven't bothered to upgrade (or rather reinstall to avoid bugs and whatnot) from 8.1 but may do so if there are real performance boosts.

I don't think so, no. There are a few threads about it, it runs about the same for most people. One thing some people said here is that in Windows 10 you'll have to run in fullscreen or else there's some additional input lag.

bearodactylhow does one acquire a beta code?
are there going to be more released so people can actually play in the cup tn?

For now, you'll need to find somebody who's already in the beta, and give them your email. They can send you one of their 5 allowed invitations. You should be able to find somebody in the discord: https://discordapp.com/invite/tf2faceit

edit: replaced instant invite link with permanent link, ty googler
