If you are on windows right click your volume icon hit recording devices. Right click the correct mic and choose "set as default device" along with "Set as default communication device" Then restart Steam so it changes the microphone it will use.

Try a FULLY clean install of tf2
- Backup your cfg and custom folders. (Only backup your cfg folder if you have special configs you made. If you are using the games default dont bother with backing it up as it will likely mess up your game after all this)
- Delete the "Team Fortress 2" directory located in "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common" (or the directory that was specified during it's installation).
- Delete Team Fortress 2 in Steam.
- Run "regedit.exe" located in "%windir%" and delete all entries in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\tf\Settings". If you don't know how to use Regedit i'd highly suggest looking at a guide for it first.
- Disable Steam Cloud synchronization on Team Fortress 2 and restart Steam.
- Reinstall Team Fortress 2: steam://install/440. Wait for it to finish before continuing.
- Verify Team Fortress 2 has installed correctly: steam://validate/440. Wait for it to finish before continuing.
- Change the launch options of TF2 to -novid -nosound -safe -autoconfig.
- Try to launch the game again: steam://run/440.
- Remove -novid -nosound -safe -autoconfig from the startup options after the game has successfully launched once and change it back to whatever you had before if you want. (I would recommend full screen with -novid)
- Reinstall your custom files 1 by 1
- Reinstall your cfg

Some stuff I would recomend you use
- Comanglia's Config / FPS Guide
- No explosion smoke script - Grab the original version in a .vpk format
- No bullet hole dust- Couldnt find the original in a vpk format so I uploaded mine.
- No sound scapes -Gets rid of excess map noise.

Their "security scan plus" is a piece of software that runs on the system for the pure purpose of selling its product to end users who aren't experienced with computers. It runs 24/7 bugging users with prompts to buy its products. I call that malware.

Fixed thanks for pointing that out. Will provide prof of my claims once I get a VM set up and install a clean copy of Windows 10 with McAfee and then see how it "protects". My source is an IT tech for a living and seeing first hand that McAfee does not do much of anything for protection against malware which is far more prevalent than actual Viruses in todays age. You will notice a LOT of system resource being used from it as apposed to products like MalwareBytes and Avast with the recent update. PUP stand for potentially unwanted program (adware).

Hope that cleared that up. Will get that vm set up now.

Your system report indicates that McAfee Security Scan Plus is running on your computer. This software is known to interfere with the Steam client and games. Please try completely removing all of this software. Also, please unplug all none essential devices from the computer(controller, thumb drives, etc.), then restart your computer and test the issue again.

They helped you remove a virus at least. (McAfee really is a virus in and of its self being the actual product, That security scan plus is a virus plus a pup) If you have McAfee installed remove it and run a scan with MBAM(MalwareBytes Anti Malware) To replace McAfee with a working product look at Avast. To properly set it up follow my guide here otherwise it can interfere with TF (like any anti virus product)

1080p 60 fps (im trying to convince him 144hz is worth the upgrade once they have the money) mine craft and other low power games he comes across. Settings medium. (He is okay with fps configs or playing on low settings)
