I mean, I understand that the ban was given because of posting the script itself. It does make sense that RGL would be upset because it would "promote" the script.

But like, anyone who wants the script could find it online with no problem. I did a quick google search just to see how easy it is to find and you can find it as a file on game banana (https://gamebanana.com/sounds/32971) as well as other sites. This isn't some grand reveal of how to cheat. If someone wanted to cheat in this regard they would have to spend less than 30 minutes to get the files set up properly. Cheaters are going to cheat and Pete's post here isn't going to change that fact.

I don't see how banning Pete for going out of his way to test and attempting to rectify the exploit is the way to go here. It seems to me that you are just complicit with sweeping it under the rug under the guise of "Oh well we sent emails but valve didn't do anything so don't talk about it."
I for one didn't know how easy the script was until Pete showed the technical side of things. It seems to me that he is really invested in helping out the community by giving valve the information they need to fix it, rather than promote an exploit.

sigafooI don't disagree with Pete's goals and I don't fault his frustration with the problem. I do disagree what releasing explicit details when Valve has not put out an update recently to potentially fix this. As I even stated in my DM to him that he posted on twitter. "If it's not in the next update, then I would be behind you doing this." Since not too long ago we sent over the info to Valve, with multiple variations on how you can use the same idea to cheat.

Which is to say, I would not be against his actions, if we actually saw that Valve did not update it in the next update.

I thoroughly don't see how you could say this when it was previously stated that multiple attempts have been given at contacting valve about this exploit from years before. I've just scrolled through the update section on the teamfortress website and there are multiple updates and hot fixes that were given out that could fix this exploit. The track record of updates given out without fixing the sound exploit is literally too high to say "give it some time!!!"
Furthermore, you are living in an absolute fantasy if you are genuinely believe that attention given to exploits should be held for after updates. How long should Pete wait to say anything? A couple more months? I don't know Pete and I don't know you personally but I think you're being foolish here from an objective 3rd party standpoint.

tl;dr the ban is unwarranted and it's founded by silly reasoning.
