#8 New to Editing, Looking for Feedback and Demos in Videos

The biggest issue with your edits was how terribly slow everything was, just make it faster first and then focus on other stuff, add smooths and so on.

#6 Smoothing PREC Demos in Videos

Like people said, launch through console instead of demoui, but if it still doesnt work like it happened to me, make sure you have the demo straight up in the tf folder not in any subfolders, f.e. tf\demos or such.

great pan/crop dude, smooths were pretty good as well, there were pacing issues at times, but overall great edit

_KermitDoes this mean that NaFs QL movie is nearly done? Genuinely so happy to see him back doing TF2 edits, they're some of my favourites. I have full faith that this will turn out as well as all of his other edits.

Dude, NaFs QL movie has been out for almost 2 months :D

#3 Problem with viewing demos in Q/A Help

Try moving the demo to tf folder and not any subfolders within tf, like tf\demos\ for example

This is great.

I have a question that might seem a bit unrelated, but I not sure where to ask. Wouldnt it be possible to create a similar client plugin that would force sv_pure -1? It would be sort of a hack if used in multiplayer, but I only want it for recording demos with -insecure. Even since SteamPipe, demos have been forcing sv_pure and I cant replace materials in most demos and there is still no 100% working bypass to this.

I dont know how to make client plugins even though Ive been looking, but there seems to be little to no documentation on this matter. Even though there is plenty about server plugins, it seems the client ones are made a bit differently and I cant wrap my head around it. So, if someone who knows how to make plugins would make such a plugin, or explain to me why this isnt possible if thats the case, I would be grateful.

#7 SFM in TF2 General Discussion

1. Use a lower FOV for the cameras. Try using the lens presets built in SFM, the 50mm preset can give you a nice general look. With this high FOV you get a lot of distortion and it doesnt look very good.

2. Try better composition. Use the rule of thirds. Pay attention to how high the camera is positioned. If its looking at the character from above, he seems smaller, less dominant. If the camera is looking at the character from below, he is dominant. Use this to communicate what you want from the poster.

3. Use depth of field, maybe tweak the SSAO to get a better look. Even if you dont want the background blurred you should still use depth of field with no aperture, because it eliminates the black noise.

4. Lighting - google 3-point lighting setup. Dont use just white lights, use some colored ones too. If youre outdoors, the sun is generally a orange/yellowish color. You can use a blue fill light for contrast.

There is much more that could be said, but have this for now. Good luck with future posters!

#18 Prominence in Videos

Man, this video was very inconsistent in all aspects. Pacing had its nice moments, but was overall pretty bad, sorry. Colours were either so subtle they werent seen, or very weird and awkward. Smooths were alright. Overall the video felt sometimes like a fragshow, and sometimes like an edit, and even then, you switched edit styles multiple times, effects as well. I must say I didnt enjoy it at all, but I guess its just me.
