SalamancerMostly it seems like what came out of DJC's ramblings last night has been positive.

Maybe it's just how I look at things at this point, but I think a lot of it is just bullshit and a lot of what djc says is completely unsubstantiated. I've gotten people into the game, brought people back from the dead to play it again, sent streams and STVs to people for pretty much the entire existence of ESEA TF2. Telling people "to just go cast" is just as stupid as saying "get smarter casters". The major casters that djc listed don't play this game 4-5 nights a week.

No one who has ever played this game did it for any reason other than for their own enjoyment. What I mean by this is no one has ever played this game in anything other than their free time. Since it's inception this game has been juggled with girl-friends (the few of them), work, life shit in general, friends, and family. If you have to dedicate an hour and a half four nights a week to remain anywhere above "total shit" in ESEA then dedicating another hour a night or another night in its entirety is going to put some serious strain on anyone.

Another thing that I'd like to touch upon is this notion that we need to be "more professional" if we want to grow the community. This is why you get people saying WE NEED A NICKNAMES RULE and WE CAN'T BE USING RACIST/SEXIST LANGUAGE while casting. This doesn't work with the idea of "everybody has to do their part if we want to see growth". Maybe this is knowledge that's just privy to me, but people in this community play the game for their enjoyment and don't really give a shit what other people particularly think about it. The things we enjoy and find funny aren't exactly family-friendly and anyone who says otherwise is fucking oblivious. "djc sexifies an i46 match" isn't exactly what you use to get people interested in this game. Everyone finds ggglygy hilarious (lu branden) but if you've ever actually talked to him it is readily apparent that he does not give a fuck about what he says or how he comes off to people. He did read gay fanfiction for us in mumble at one point (and many wish he would again).

In addition to the "what we find funny is far from acceptable to regular viewers" you also have to accept that this community is so steeped in its own history, circle-jerks, and inside jokes that it is difficult to enter before you even touch the game. During the international thread on natf2 someone was able to make a "you fell right into the hands of EG" joke and people could still understand it. That joke itself precedes NATF2 by years. TF.tv is a giant fucking homage to a back-alley website that we posted on for years with no regard for "what was growing the game".

As for my own defense, djc called that medic shit too. I told the medic he shouldn't play in pug.na if he doesn't know how to play the game at around an im level and didn't bother to give him shit after that except for when he did shit that I specifically told him not to do since I was supposed to be pocketing him. And aristotle had restricted a different med for the same shit literally the night before.

Shwan"none of you have done anything beside play it and whine of the forums"

I haven't listened to the whole thing but I don't understand why DJC thinks the community hasn't done shit even though they want tf2 comp to be successful. Was it not the community that payed sal back 14 grand for sending 2 teams to FUCKING EUROPE; And supported other teams in order to make it to the ESEA lan? Not to mention the fact that the community is the only reason djc has any readers, why extv has any staff, and why any stream has any amount of viewers. Consuming the content that others make isn't doing nothing, it directly supports it.

He then shits on "high IM" players for not casting, failing to realize that the reason those players cant cast is because they are busy playing the game. Most nights IM teams cant even watch eXtv because they are playing in their own ESEA matchs at the same time. Now some times invite matches are later and an IM player could finish a match and cast the invite one. But that is only if their team stops playing TF2 after a match, many teams keep scriming. Luckily Cbear got it right when he pleaded for players that AREN'T playing but where top IM or low invite to cast with eXtv.

In order to contribute to the community you need to have a solid knowledge of the game, and an ability to write coherently, or the personality to be streamed on the internet. It doesn't surprise me that their are only a handful of people like that. I haven't even mentioned that fact that everyone plays tf2 on top of going to school / having a job / being social. To contribute you need the right ratio of those things to even have enough time left to create content let alone the skills needed.

All that being said DJC is a someone I like and he is right in saying that we need more creators, I just don't like the way he went about saying it.

I also just realized DJC was drunk... maybe that is why he didn't realize these things.

Should also note that some players don't want to scrim before a match, play a match, and then go watch a match. I can't be the only player in the history of IM that finishes a match and then would rather go play dota.

Alright so when you guys play a match and you're up 4-2 you can play as aggressive as you want. It stands that it was a smart decision and it won them the game.
